In the morning I gotta drive an hour and a half to go patch some holes in drywall. Of course it's 2:30 in the morning and I can't sleep. I'm going to be a friggin zombie by the time I start working.

Oh yeah, I remember some pretty cold Halloweens. So annoying getting stuck wearing a jacket.

Ah thats awesome. I forgot, yeah I was Batman for Halloween too! I was really into Batman when Batman and Batman Returns were in theaters.

Some of my childhood Halloween costumes were a pirate, a ghostbuster, TMNT Michelangelo but I think my favorite was dressing up as a vampire. Not necessarily Dracula but just a vampire. I did that for quite a few Halloweens. What was your favorite Halloween costume?

I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but I remember exactly how the pizza tasted at Showbiz Pizza in 1987.

I bought these external hard drive enclosures about 2 years apart. After 5 years of operation the 1st one blew a capacitor and now exactly 2 years later the 2nd enclosure blew the same cap. It was power cycling and I knew exactly what it was. All fixed now!

Ok if you end up playing with a taxidermy horse at a rest stop then I'll be concerned. That was also in the dream.

Had a dream last night that I was driving down to Florida in a kei truck with @kinggourd.bsky.social. We stopped in North Carolina to look around an old junkyard and the truck got stolen. Then @origamigryphon.bsky.social had to come and get us.

I wouldn't be surprised that strings are being pulled to make sure that Digger flops. And if you go out and actually see the movie you'll see the irony in all of this first hand, which is incredible.

Here is where things get interesting. I did see a couple of people leave the theater. Coincidentally most of the negative reviews I've seen posted seem to be from people who like red hats. On top of this, the movie's message isn't exactly what corporations, investors and government want you to hear.

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I went into Digger completely clueless about the story, which I think is the best way to see it. I really enjoyed the film, so I was shocked to see the negative reviews after I got home and did some more research. It seems to be a love it or hate it kind of film.

Despite my gripes with working on these older cars, it pales in comparison to modern day vehicles which are deliberately designed to be unserviceable. I hate sounding like a Luddite but the automotive industry doesn't want you to hang on to a car for 10+ years. The hell with that!

My only experience with Porsche is my 1983 928 which is also an engineering marvel. Parts are tremendously heavy duty and overbuilt. Absolutely obsessed with weight distribution and presentation which means things are shoved in inaccessible places. 5 parts need to come out to replace 1.

1970s BMWs are mechanical perfection. Years of research has gone into every screw but and bolt. They were so confident in their work it's also designed to never come apart so when something breaks it's usually a big expensive problem and the part you need is like Latvia or something.

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
British Leyland cars are a mechanical oxymoron. Straightforward yet completely backwards. They can make installing the most simplistic part and all day job just because that's the way they've done it for 40 years. Hand built cars designed like hands don't exist.

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
European cars on the other hand, you have to get into different mindsets depending on what you're working on. Aircooled Volkswagens are their own thing. A general mechanic can do basic maintenance but you need to eat sleep drink and breathe VWs to truly understand and once that happens your addicted

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Most of the cars I own and work on are older European cars. So working on this 95 Firebird has been a totally different vibe for me. The big jobs didn't feel as catastrophic because everything just makes sense when pulling it apart and putting it back together. Didn't have to think too much about it

I think it's a brilliant movie that is getting deliberately thrown under the bus because higher powers don't like the message it sends to the audience. They want to make sure it flops.

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
The movie's messaging isn't exactly what the government and corporations want audiences hearing so I wouldn't be surprised that strings are being pulled to make sure that critics slam this movie. Oh the irony!

So this evening was going to be the rescheduled rescheduled rescheduled speed dating night. I didn't even bother. I said fuck it and went to the movies instead. Oh and would you look at that, the speed dating was rescheduled. I don't think they have enough people signed up to do this damn thing.

Oh yeah that freaked me out too. It's crazy how Pee Wee's Big Adventure feels like two totally different movies watching it as a kid and an adult. So many jokes and subtleties that were totally invisible to a child yet it was still entertaining. Now it's even better ha ha.

I caught this randomly on TV when I was real little. Didn't know what it was but as the years passed, I thought I may have dreamt it because it was so weird. Took me 20 years to find out it was real.

I was about 4 years old, I saw a few minutes of Poltergeist II on HBO. It was the part where he swallows the tequila worm and pukes out a demon. Scared the crap outta me. I remember not being able to sleep because I kept thinking about it.

I saw Digger tonight. Not a huge fan of Tom Cruise but him and John Goodman were phenomenal. Digger is wild and weird. If you're into the unconventional, definitely check it out.

I discovered my aunt talks in her sleep and she has the ability to ask a perfectly coherent question, crystal clear while out cold. She asked if I called my sister, I said no and was immediately followed up with snoring.

Back home from family stuff out in PA. 450 mile round trip. I'm so beat. Yet driving twice the amount of hours to a convention feels less exhausting. 🥱

Along with the suspicious EGR valve it looks like the Firebird still has the original ignition wires and spark plugs from 1995. It would have been easier to change them when I had the whole top of the engine off but I needed to draw the line somewhere. I didn't even know if the car ran at that time.

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The ECU changes the fuel mixture to compensate for when it opens and closes the EGR valve. So if it's stuck the car is going to idle rough because the fuel mixture is off. No check engine light on but I'm thinking that's what it is. Maybe I can take it apart and clean the solenoids in the valve. 🤔

Put about 150 miles on the Firebird so far. Runs pretty good. Occasionally it idles a little rough. I'm suspecting the EGR valve is getting stuck. It's digitally controlled by the ECU instead of vacuum and it's actually making a loud clack when it's activated.

I love them. So weird and 90s. GM made a big deal that these cars came standard with ABS so there is big ABS logo right on the centercap.

I was so excited about this car when it came out because it looked like the Pontiac Banshee. My parents bought a brand new 1993 Firebird and I lost my mind. Sadly it caught on fire after 4 days of ownership and it was gone. I was so pissed.

Ok mechanically, I think the Firebird is all sorted now. New thermostat New serpentine belt New coolant hoses New coolant New water pump New radiator w cap New fuel injectors New upper intake gaskets New lower intake gaskets New valve cover gaskets New battery New brake fluid 🥵

It's getting there. I think the main thing that was wrong with the car was the fuel injectors. Everything else I'm working on is due to total lack of preventative maintenance from the previous owner. It's crazy how everything is original from 1995 on the car.
