After "winning" the biggest game jam ever, our game 🕛11:59🕛 has been added to dozens of people's #gmtk #gamejam 2026 itch collections! We were so honored by this that we made our own favorites collection: itch.io/c/8014318 (Max definitely played the most games out of the 3 of us) #indiegame #gamedev

2026 marks the end of a challenge I started in 2022! 🎉 To get good at gamedev, I challenged myself to release one game every week of 2022, month of 2023, season of 2024, and to make one year-long project for 2025. I fell a bit behind mid-2023 so I'm still making that last game! #indiegame #gamedev

Chicrook: Puzzling Playground finally released on December 14th, 2024! Here's everything that happened during the last two months of development. #indiegame

Vines were added to the robocops to show their age. At this point, I also added the boat to show more of the game's story.

I just made my corn count over 1000 again, the sky turned black, it got hard to see in the distance, the sun cast a pure red light on the world, and from the darkness I thought I saw something. A corn collection effect. As if something else collected corn. Actually it was just a similar-looking explosion but Chicrook has the potential to be terrifying.

The pause menu was added! This became more important later.

At this point, I began messing with the graphics to allow for post-processing effects. I got it all figured out in the end, but it was annoying while it was happening.

CoolBobGames @coolbobgames.itch.io · 13/06/2025

Here's what happened to Chicrook 3 back in November! #indiegame

I started putting corn everywhere! Originally, the corn was unlit to make it pop, but shining in the light made it stand out more.

I added in the robocops as statues! The dead black faces remind me of Lego Mario.

I gave the corn these cool randomized particle effects when picked up! I discovered them while messing with Unity.

The new, low-res corn sprite was made for this button. The buttons in-game use the colors of the switch palaces in Super Mario World.

Continuing where I left off on the Chicrook: Puzzling Playground retrospective devlogs! #indiegame

Pictures from the process of modeling and animating the robocops. I do both of these things weirdly.

The chicken hiding under a table to protect itself from the robocops, which originally chased you on land. For some reason they're using their flying animation instead of their walking one.

Testing the dock. Different FBI head design.

Testing different colors for the builders, which would later be seen in Forklift Fever. The last color scheme seemed the most distinct.

Here are some pictures from when I made the starting town for Chicrook: Puzzling Playground. #indiegame

A block out of New Celipo, with all the buildings' different shapes and sizes.

The under-construction buildings were built first. The second short one would later become the crane.

The crane, a reference to my game Lots of Tanks 3D.

The original police station, basically unchanged in the final game.
