I want safe street design, I want to write well, I want the Blue Jays to get it together, I want UBI, I want to see a probe fly the skies of Titan, and I want you to call my raise, because I just made a full house. He/him.

Real Men. And it was a first date.
Poster for the movie Real Men, starring James Belushi and John Ritter. The two leads are looking exasperated while being crushed by the title of the film, rendered as large, cracking stone letters. It is an appropriate metaphor for this movie and their careers.

Yikes. That’s giving Exorcist stairs vibes.
Very high, very steep stairs beside a stone wall, lit by harsh orange lights at night.

I kid you not: a great double feature my local put on years ago. It worked. Both movies are about obligation, masculinity, and the things men owe each other.
Poster for the movie A River Runs Through It. The faces of the characters played by Tom Skerritt, Brad Pitt, and Craig Sheffer above the title, and below it a silhouetted man fly fishing in a river, in front of a backdrop of trees.Poster for the movie Reservoir Dogs. Six men, nearly identical in black suits and sunglasses, rendered in a featureless, black and white comic book style walk across a white background beneath the title. The edges are splattered with blood.

Someone should knit Lukes a Christmas sweater with this on it.

I’ve lived between Spadina and the Humber for 30 years, and in Bloor West Village for 15. Never saw one until about 3 years ago. This year there’s a nest in the back yard.

Two dissolute men sitting on the front steps of a London townhouse. One is wearing a black leather jacket and is holding a newspaper disinterestedly. The other is wearing a garish ensemble, once posh but now rumpled and drab. They are both staring outwards - despondent, miserable, and exhausted with life.

I love this album. I was recently going through boxes of my mom’s stuff and found my middle school Christmas concerts. Surprisingly good, but not as achey, earnest, and bonkers fun as the Langley School’s. And wow, early 80s Toronto schools were not shy about the Christianity!

I appreciate the thought. But access isn’t a problem (the premier of Ontario is pro-Trump, so US booze went back on the shelves lickety split). No, the point is to deny profits to American companies. I do have a few shots left. I’m not pouring it down the drain - I’m patriotic, not crazy!

That cancelled tv show you will never stop thinking about.
Six people, a man, a young girl, a police officer, and three others are in a nondescript motel room, not looking at each other. There is a profound sense of unease

A dear departed friend treated me to the goooood seats one day, and it happened to be Sanchez’ debut. I think his 2nd batter was Big Papi, but Sanchez was utterly fearless. Threw fire.

My kiddo loves this book, about a girl and her friends fighting a sentient smog trying to burn UnLunDon (and London), and the greedy, shortsighted people helping it. So, Manchin, if he were British, and had magical powers.

I’ve heard that one before. It’s accurate in a lot of ways, and it’s not a good thing. I’m proud to be a Canadian, but there’s a stubborn, reactionary timidity, an attitude that progress is fine, but it has to be slow. When compromise is the highest virtue it becomes a flavour of conservatism.
