I had a great GP many moons ago who point-blank refused to give me a med cert, said I shouldn't work anywhere I wasn't trusted. Ha! He told me to tell my boss this and further, that he resented me contaminating his waiting room - I had a cold/flu pre-covid - and me having to leave home while ill.

No worries. Just Google "free online <book name>" to find a book that is available to read in full online, free. www.gutenberg.org Project Gutenberg is one of my go-tos. openlibrary.org/help/faq/bor... And Open Library. Just Google more broadly for other options, you can get lucky.

... and McLaren breathes a sigh of relief too, not up there with the leaders of Mercedes and Ferrari. And Red Bull, Max ... when asked if the car would be better for #ChineseGP race “No. It was the same. Turned it upside down and it was exactly the same. So I’m expecting exactly the same tomorrow,”

I remember the days of pre-privatisation of the Australian Public Service. And then, a sustained campaign of demonising APS workers as slow/dumb by media/pollies, including a Warren Brown cartoon of a public servant at work trying to decide on "1 lump or 2" for their cup of tea. Here we are now ...

This is so shameful after Albo's recent visit to PNG and the tightening of defence ties through a treaty. I am pretty sure defence includes providing assistance to children at all times.

She really is something. Another brilliant Aussie flying under the radar in so many ways; she is smart, funny, warm and has the ability to disarm her guests. Her love of music is contagious and her knowledge mammoth. If you're not watching Take 5 with Zan Rowe review your life choices!

The most alarming thing about the internet is how it kills our capacity for delight. People spend hours scrolling glass-eyed through content that brings only crumbs of amusement. Real joy is found in the real world: in reading, in starlight, in birdsong, in service to others.

No, Netanyahu, for all our faults, if Hamas were next door to Melbourne/Sydney, we'd not be killing 10s of 1000s of babies, children, elderly = civilians en masse. For all our apathy to hit the streets/protest, say, compared to the French, killing innocent people is something most Aussies abhor.

Who ever said dreaming makes it so ... I know it's early and only a small percentage of the total vote has been counted ... but Dickson is NOT looking like a shoe-in for Peter Dutton. #auspol #Ausvotes

I don't want to appear greedy but is it too much to want Dutton to not only lose the election but to lose Dickson too? The rest of the world is passing Australia by. We need forward thinking good solid public policy in all our interests. Many countries offer their publics far more. #auspol

Trump's just pissed Zelenskyy didn't yield to his fearsome or dynamic personality - whichever would have worked - and allow him to keep his promise of ending the Russian invasion of Ukraine in a day, like he said he could do. He is equally pissed with Putin but less vocal about him in this instance

Mark Kenny, you utter keystone writer. You have covered everything beautifully here. The great privilege of running Australia requires The Lodge. Kirribilli House is for all of us. If we're not entertaining foreign dignitaries it should be available off and on for good causes/public access, not PMs.

Imagine you’re a country funding an expensive Canberra embassy, only for the PM to suddenly base himself somewhere else. At a whim. Just one of many implications of snubbing the capital.

Nor should we, and we should have started backing off the US some decades ago and asserting our own persona. It's time not only for a republic in Australia but for us to stand more on our own two feet and stop fighting USA's wars and enemies.

Yes, Australians ARE insulted Senator Warner. Thank you for your remarks re: the idiocy of the policy against us, as you say, a country with a trade surplus with the USA/free trade agreement. We don't take US meat re: quarantine sanctuary, bar Japan and NZ. #auspol www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDM...

Not bankrupt the US, but destroy the economy to the point where the rich can swoop in and clean up. It could get ugly when Trump's supporters start feeling it because largely it will be them first. Or, he's a genius who is going to make all Americans rich, being his first act of altruism ever 🤑

000

Contingere @contingere.bsky.social · 04/04/2025

But is he? If we assume Trump is gunning for all Americans to have the best economy for all, then it would seem not, so far at least, listening to many economic/markets experts. If we assume he is crashing markets so the "poor" lose out and the "rich" can move in and clean up, maybe not?

A member of the govt’s aged care transition taskforce is demanding urgent policies be unveiled to address the crisis facing the sector, including millions more dollars in funding for providers to implement Labor’s once-in-a-generation reforms and streamlining migrants into jobs to fill shortages.

There's nothing wrong with this per se, the US can turn inward, change its alliances. Yes, it could have warned Europe what was coming privately. What's laughable is that for 80yrs the US has banged on about the threat that Russia/communism poses ... to the point of wars. Now, best buddies #auspol
