Yes the fact that we, as a society, obviously posess all the wealth necessary to not only fix the chronic problems but also have everyone live a life of comfort and plenty, and only don't do that so like, car dealership owners can buy a 60 foot boat instead of a 40 foot boat — bad for the vibes!

Middle aged me looking back on young me and all the petty bullshit and squabbling people got into just seems like we should have kept ourselves busier and spent less time sitting around smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. We were idle! Of course we invented trouble.

Social media is basically over and everyone who used to make a freelance living at it is either spinning their wheels or turning that big dial labeled Racism but it’s not going to work

Glad we’re talking about vibe shift reversal but it’s also annoying how both the Jacobin and Chapo factions of the left also tried to tack into the wind on that one

When I was in high school I thought Wicca and Paganism were cool because they were largely a social justice lesbian thing. Now I’m beginning to suspect that like health food, “being into meat and homesteading“ and woo in general well it’s not looking good for all these social movements

i think you can fairly say that the second trump administration is the most racist federal administration since woodrow wilson and honestly i'm not sure that it isn't more racist than wilson's

Benny Safdie as physicist Edward Teller in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" (2023), in a scene depicting the Trinity test site, his face coated in sunscreen and wearing protective goggles, with a numbered badge ("73") on his shirt, standing near a vintage truck at night with two blurred figures in the background.

You can’t say computer clearly think because they think, that’s not a truth bearing proposition

Hirschman @contextproblem.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Also if you define thinking as something computers and brains do ok but you need to say that

People are unsettled by the military coup poll but forgot in the aftermath of Jan 6th the top power in country was de facto a troika of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley

Something I find kind of distasteful is how difficult public personalities get tolerated or even celebrated when it looks like they’re on a winning team and then when the tide goes out everyone takes turns kicking them. they were jerks when you liked them! Show some principle.

Mao killed a lot of people but also helped a lot of people to go work, so it’s impossible to say if he’s bad or not.

i think the closest analogy to 'what is going on at AI companies' is 'what was going on at JPL in the 1950s,' where communists, Satanists, swingers and adherents of a bizarre Russian Orthodox-adjacent techno-optimist microsect ended up doing a tremendous amount of important rocket science
