This is exactly what ICE said: "Parra-Hernandez ran in front of an ICE vehicle and was struck." Now watch the video. They're no other word for it: They're lying.

Yeah, a real called shot, that one.

Lots of people have long rejected these arguments. A minority? Sure. But a strong and well-reasoned minority. As it happens: LLMs have convinced me they were/are right

There have always been people who disagreed, vehemently, with this logic. Just because Turing wrote one paper and got a lot of attention for it from the cognitive revolutionaries (who were, on the whole, wrong about most things anyway) doesn’t mean this was some settled deal.

They should let the market handle it.

I think he was actually disturbed and had the personal moral feeling that he didn’t want to be responsible for killing people—especially since they might be innocent.

Yeah, Ryan really deserves credit for cracking the whole thing open. Bad Governor, bad person. But that was a pretty brave and important action.

I mean… if The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover is horror, but Solaris isn’t, well… then I’m confused.

I’m confused about why no one has mentioned Tarkovsky. Does he not count somehow?

The Trial is a great pull. And I’d fight anyone who says it’s not horror.

Well, like three of them weren’t. But once they got sidelined and Grant took over…

The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Yeah, possibly. What elements are vital to embodiment and whether/how they can be simulated or constructed is a Bluesky argument that we won’t be able to engage with annoyingly enough until several more breakthroughs have occurred.

The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
But, as far as AI is concerned, the argument goes that the reason they haven’t (can’t?) achieve consciousness is because they don’t live in the world.
100
The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The gist of embodiment is that the self isn’t contained only in the brain—that it is not just passively receiving sensory signals from the body and the world, but that they are a part of the self. There are many different degrees of this idea—are your surroundings part of your self? Your culture?
110
The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Well, if embodiment—worldliness—is a prerequisite for consciousness, then it might be tough for a soul to maintain its character sans corporeality.
100
The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Emergence is definitely distinct from ensoulment, too!
000
The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Friends, there are at least several possible explanations for the distinction that don’t deploy souls. Embodied cognition, integrated information theory, etc.

My hottest take is that all of the misplaced concern—from Skynet to data center water usage—stems from our inability to imagine and articulate our true fear: that humanity is tinkering with its own obsolescence.

The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
This is a big part of the problem with “AI safety”. A bunch of people are afraid of technology killing them when they should be worried about technology moving on without them.

The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I think that the chances of this aren’t that low. Frankly, some degree of ceding digital space and activity over to AI is an unavoidable ramification of these agents. Think of the degree to which email, phone lines and texts have already become semi-non-human concerns with very little AI involvement

Tennessee plans to execute a woman tomorrow. She was 18 when she committed the crime. She's now 50. Like most on death row, she's also a victim. And like most on death row, she's a far different person now than she was then. No one humanizes the condemned better than @lilianasegura.bsky.social.

After 30 years on death row, Christa Pike faces execution for a grisly murder she committed at 18.

I think the happiness/misery quotient is basically thermostatic. Having a toddler is so utterly miserable but the utterly joyful parts make you have to suffer through the rest. Just dastardly.

I’ve been told the problem is insurers. That Aetna would be happy to have unified coding, as long as it’s Aetna’s. The same as BCBS, Kaiser, etc. would unify, but under their systems.

I think what’s really meant is “the last time a war wasn’t hopeless but for continued American presence stemming the bleeding”?
000
The Constant @constantpodcast.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Yeah, this isn’t a very clear framing. If you’re not concerned with outcomes, any war can be ended by one set of belligerents withdrawing.

I’m not endorsing anything, but I do feel that being more comfortable with military junta than lone gunman signals a certain ethical deficit akin to not pulling the trolley lever.

The thing I think needs to be said more often is that D.W. Griffith was so upset with the pushback on Birth of a Nation that his next movie was called “Intolerance” and tacitly compared his travails to those of JESUS CHRIST
