Galway City Building of the Month for August is the former Parkaveara Lock Keeper's House, 12 Dominick Street Upper (RPS.3301). The building was constructed as part of the Eglington Canal project (1848-1852) to serve the Parkaveara Lock which is located a short distance away.

#HandsOnTrad - Last Saturday was a really special day at Fahy's Farm / Feirm Úi Fhathaigh in Galway City. This was the first traditional building skills event to be held there, and hopefully this is just the beginning of nudging this beautiful vernacular farm complex awake. 1/5

Delighted to have received funding from @heritagecouncil.ie & have appointed consultants to undertake a Vernacular Heritage Survey of Baile an Dúlaigh. The survey will be undertaken by Deirdre McDermott & Áine Doyle, who have a wide experience & understanding of recording vernacular heritage.

The hulking edifice of Menlo Castle in Galway City. Built over a period of 350 years from the 1550s, it was destroyed in a fire in 1910. Conservation works have been ongoing over the last number of years via the Community Monuments Fund + @galwaycitycouncil.bsky.social. @nationalmons.bsky.social
