It’s been like a week since they ruined the RSC page. Thought I’d just muddle through, but finding ACS trashed today is a bit too far. Chrome does seem to work for me (on Mac) for both ACS and RSC. But I like not using all the RAM on my machine for a web browser…

Flat out does nothing on ACS (in the video I’m clicking). On the RSC pages I click the thing top right, then get taken to another page with an “Access…” that does nothing at all when clicked.

@acs.org (publications account handle invalid) and @rsc.org: you’ve both migrated your platforms recently. In both cases, your new “Access through your institution” buttons don’t work in Safari. Is this a known issue with a solution coming?

As expected, these complexes do not reduce naphthalene (–2.2 V), or anthracene (–1.9 V). However, several do reduce both 4,4′-bipy (–2.3 and –2.9 V) and pyridine (–3.2 V)! We propose this occurs through a "coordination-induced reduction" mechanism. Read the paper to find out more!

Divalent rare earth complexes have been reported by us and others previously (e.g. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...) using Power's hexa-isopropyl terphenyl anilide ligand system. Cyclic voltammetry using an internal electrochemical standard show the most reducing RE(3+/2+) around –2.2 to –2.3 V.

Our latest paper on divalent rare earth chemistry is up on @chemicalscience.rsc.org! Electrochemical measurements of the RE(3+/2+) couple in neutral divalent anilide complexes weren't sufficiently negative to reduce 4,4′-bipyridine or pyridine – yet several do! See: pubs.rsc.org/en/Content/A...

Reactions of a Uranium(III) Complex with N-Heterocycles to Form Diuranium(IV) Ketimides
The chemistry of the classical uranium(III) complex [U(N″)3] (N″ = {N(SiMe3)2}−) is well-developed; however, there have been surprisingly few studies of its reactivity toward N-heterocycles. Here, we ...

Excited to show our latest preprint “Uranocenium – The bis-[8]annulene Uranium Cation”. Uranocene is oxidised to uranocenium cation both chemically, and electrochemically, with reversibility comparable to ferrocene. This derives from an unusual electronic structure. chemrxiv.org/doi/full/10....

Uranocenium – The bis-[8]annulene Uranium Cation | ChemRxiv
Uranocene, [UIV(η8-C8H8)2], is the actinide equivalent to ferrocene. While ferrocene is readily oxidised to the ferrocenium cation, higher oxidation states of uranocene are unknown. Here we report the elusive uranocenium cation, [UV(η8-C8H8)2]+ , and ...
