conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I wanted to ask, do you have an intuitive understanding for what "shape" of rule set will lead to certain outcomes, or is there a lot of brute force? I was beginning to get a broad understanding of what rule sets would lead to a particular character, but i reckoned you'd now have a solid grasp of it 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I finally had a chance to implement your CA framework last night, which if you remember you explained how it worked to me about a year ago. I had a good wee play around with different rule sets, getting a feel for what each index does. 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Do you need individual identification for it or can you check the quantity of available resources, build within that limit and reduce the scree accordingly? See photo of an old "shieling" near mine. There are hundreds of them around here, your wee villages remind me of them at the moment 120
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Do they repurpose the stone from old buildings into their new ones? 120
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Oh right I assumed it was just some kind of magic 010
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 28/09/2026It's just so wild that less than a year ago this was a wee tower defence ascii holiday project 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Holy moly! Send my biggest congratulations to Margaret! 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 23/09/2026This is like a best hits reel of the last few years 001
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I've been tanning hebridean sheepskins this week I thought it was going to be a grim task, but I have absolutely loved the process. It is such a nice material to work with, and such a nice result There is no shortage of sheep on this island, so i think i might have my winter hobby set out for me 040
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I suppose a disadvantage of this more organic method of building rooms and corridors, is you need to somehow define what is a corridor and a room afterwards Certainly it leads to some really interesting shapes that you would be unlikely to build otherwise though 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Your use of the third state (in flux) is to me quite interesting, as it is allowing you more variety of results. If you can identify that this is a large room, it could become a real centre piece for the area 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 16/09/2026And it looks better for it? I really like this one 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Maybes its a bit isotropic and not so "locally interesting" actually, I take it back hah 000
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 10/09/2026You should add a new render mode: 4-dimensional - it's ascii in 3D, the fourth dimension is imagination 220
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 10/09/2026@somestinkydude.bsky.social and I will need to start doing pixel art haha 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Currently there isnt a mechanism to bring an entity out of the fleeing behaviour so 2 is cowering in the corner, having been pushed there by 3. If it had spotted 1 while idle, it would pursue 1 until it was found by 3 011
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 08/09/2026A bit of programmer art #roguelikedev-ing. Entities sensing their surroundings and assessing which behavioural pattern to adopt. Here is a "trophic level" simulation where 1<2<3 in the food chain. A game of cat and mouse between 1 and 3 is interrupted when 1 sees 2 and gets spooked 342
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 28/08/2026This post induced some very sudden panic in me, it needed a disclaimer! 100
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Never seen an elephant bird but this is the last ever great auk. I similarly like to visit it and love that this one exists to see. Crazy, brutal and heartbreaking story if you dont know it These are the original penguins, before penguins got their name 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I've heard from some nasa friends that roguefort is being used for some dark matter structure of the universe simulations now. Cant believe how much you have implemented 110

conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 08/08/2026You spurred me on to download this a few weeks back. That and frogs are my favourite animal. Took ages to get it compiled on termux but now I have it running on my phone. Still finding my feet but love it so far. Would be great to see more of it from someone who knows what theyre doing 😅 220
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 06/08/2026We raced up thw hill out nasg to try catch a glimpse but either we missed them or our scope isnt as powerful! Next time 010
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 04/08/2026I couldn't say as it's not a spot i visit often, but it had rained a lot before the days I was there, so the water at least wasn't low. The scale is pretty small, that wetland area is ~100m or so across. But it was at the foot of a small coire/glen so I imagine it is scalable in a larger setting 010
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Previous reply seems to have gotten lost in the ether so apologies if this doubles up I saw this bizarre looking bog/wetland the other day and thought of you and your ca work. It's a river running into a marsh, creating these amazing pools distributed very fluidly curled round eachother 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Really love the lighthouse generator, hadnt come across it before 010
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Back on the boat tomorrow, as long as I get one or two! 011
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 01/08/2026We got a handful last year but they were sat (for a brief moment) on our window ledge during storm floris and did not survive 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Paddled through a jellyfish soup today #jellyfish #seakayaking #thalassophobia 072
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 26/07/2026I was playing with seeded png mixed with natural sources of noise a while ago. This seems to follow a somewhat similar underlying mixing. What do you see if you distribute numbers from your generator, put through a modulus: rand()%100 I saw a very disheartening repetition 110
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 05/07/2026bluesky compression hurts the readability a little.. 000
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 05/07/2026I've put together a poster design showing the positions of lighthouses around the Scottish coastline. A handful were omitted for clarity or because they have been deactivated. But the distribution of construction dates I find really interesting. #datavisualisation #scotland #lighthouses #noai 130
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 05/07/2026For an unrelated project, i was trying to find good lighthouse related quotes the other day. Ones from this constantly came up 000
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 01/07/2026Thats a hard ask, I feel like my enthusiasm for it fluctuates on a weekly basis 000
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 01/07/2026By now, in the development of the lighthouse keeper, there are so many possibilities that he can choose to get up to, that i have completely forgotten many of them. It's often a total surprise to me now He seems like a proper living and breathing being now 000
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Although the account is a bot, there has been a lot of human imagination gone into the generator. The lighthouse keepers journal continues to expand and improve over time and I love seeing how people react or interact with it. I appreciate your continued support and kind words and lot. Thanks 011
conor nally @conornally.bsky.social · 18/06/2026He certainly seems to be playing the mandolin a lot at the moment! 110
