Did more than praise Metro Surge, she arguably helped start it by feeding "information" to Nick Shirley. Not really a great person to lead MN IMO

I know this is kind of a played-out answer, but it seriously had me shook at an early camp-out. The art is elite. Also remember being really scared during ET.

My man! You definitely saw the reality like 7-8 years ago lol. It’s all good, De is cool, but that was such a tough stretch. Wild levels of dysfunction. They’ve let so many people go who really, really cared.

It barely made sense with like technicalities. If my dept needed to cut one teacher, would I be the least tenured? Yes, by a slim margin. Should the one MPS photo teacher, who was successful and passionate about the program, be replaced by a cybersecurity teacher? lol NO!! I almost went insane

010

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

There’s 1-2 HS photo classes in ONE building still running in MPS. Taught by nice people who are experts in totally different subjects. Completely destroyed program. I begged for my job for a few months before accepting budget reality and being scooped up at a really great place.

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

💔I ran out of characters in post 1 but for people reading, to clarify, I taught photo/design for 6 yrs in Northside schools as an expert with my masters, poured in sweat/tears, got like 5 kids recruited to take photos in college athletics, and they replaced me with a cybersecurity guy lol.

My photo classes at Camden were full (25-28 kids). Then they moved me to North Tech Center where I had 4-15 kids in each class. Then I was bumped out of a role that was my passion by a more tenured comp. sci teacher. Now it's taught by a piecemeal of teachers from totally different subjects. Sad

Really good clarification on a lot of things from MPS school board chair. My takeaway: he's saying the proposals may not save money, but it would provide more students with media specialists, elective teachers, other offerings in an equitable way. And stable/better working conditions for teachers.

My closing feeling is that as a motivated, passionate, qualified, successful teacher in MPS who was still cut, I hope that this stops happening. I met many others with the same experience. We pour our hearts into it for years, perform effectively, yet still get let go. That shouldn't happen.

010

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

I gave my whole heart to MPS for 9 years, and being cut was devastating. Tried for months to lobby them to keep me. I was highly reviewed across multiple areas — MPS admin agreed many times in person & via email. Luckily I landed at a great school elsewhere. I continue to hope for the best for MPS

110

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

I can say "stop the transformation" but then I still don't have a good suggestion for what to actually do. It's extremely difficult to clean up years (decades?) of mismanagement by countless long-gone employees. I do wish the site I linked had a section of what SHOULD happen.

110

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

The 2020 CDD was a disaster for enrollment. They lost twice as many students as they projected. Most notably, IMO, a LOT of SW kids were unsuccessfully rezoned to North and left MPS. Two of the new plans would reverse that, but damage has been done. stopthetransformation.com/the-last-red...

100

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

The really difficult question here is, ok, so then what's the plan financially? And you have all these new MPS employees constantly who are dealing with past mistakes. I'm sure it sucks for them, as they try to do their best but are answering for huge past errors they didn't do.

100

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

I think a charitable read of the intent of this plan is to consolidate buildings and make the K-12 experience stronger with full and consistent staffing/opportunities, trying to stop the ravaging budget cuts of the last three springs (I was cut in one of them and it was awful)

100

Alex @cono.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Before the plan was detailed on Tuesday, I had assumed that closures were needed. We were often told (I worked @ MPS for 9 years) half-full buildings burned money with heating, staffing, etc. ... but nobody has said how much $ this plan will save. Admin actually said it wouldn't do much.
