So u agree with more moderate voters moving to the left coalition, even abstaining?

So, is the next Italian election going to be fought under a different electoral system now that Meloni has managed to see her proposed reform approved by Parliament? Possibly.

I find this point very fascinating. Ofc italy has civil law, but precedent is still a matter of coherence, especially on such a short span of time. Is the big factor the change in judges?

Do u see it as 1. General excluded from coalition -> (potentially) not enough for majority bonus 2. General included -> some voters move to left coalition + EU backlash?

Random wasn't a negative qualifier xD

Random as in not of special status like MPs or other watchdogs

It's curious to me, given that judges there are only focused on constitutional matters, so I wouldn't imagine they have a case overload?

Democratic anonymity @comradebotany.bsky.social · 3h
Interesting variant of judge shopping. Hadn't heard before about this constitutional court gatekeeping. Does it only apply to random citizens? Do u like it?

So generally speaking i get from u that Romanian politics are a lil crazy. Since 1989/91 is this better than before? Like are there 3 or 4 distinct periods? I would imagine 90s were more corrupt/oligarchic given dominance of a few figures

Interesting the difference in behaviour between Merkel and Merz. Afaik merkel brought back Die Linke indirectly

Decorative benches? Lol I was reminded today of 11M Madrid attacks which happened to lead to not only stupid security checks(i think?), but also a dramatic change in fortune at the polls. Somewhat akin to the housing crisis reaction.

The strong incentive for formal coalitions is definitely strange. Also it seems so unnecessary to require a pm candidate and a programme.

Democratic anonymity @comradebotany.bsky.social · 5h
The theoretical collegiate nature of government by cabinet in parliamentary systems seems to have been informally weakened over the years for example in my country of Portugal. I wonder if a 1st place bonus in Italy and Greece isn't also promoting that. Tho in Greece it's 1 party vs coalition in IT

Shameful police violence in France. A classic case of retaliation I have personally suffered, without myself being assaulted, simply for complaining about the time, or in my case, requesting id from plain-clothes policemen. youtu.be/wmgMJ139KFQ?...

Also adds scale to public/private infrastructure. With short term problems of undercapacity

Perhaps a better reform would be to introduce a higher percentage needed to approve an electoral law?

Democratic anonymity @comradebotany.bsky.social · 9h
There are indeed a bunch of strange details to this law wow.

Im sorry u would rather believe that the Iranian regime is a beautiful rainbow mate. Wikipedia is famously open to public editing, not cia. Iran has admitted to a massacre. They even shutdown the Internet to hide it, revealing their fear of backlash and proof. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025%E2...

People love assuming that someone has bad intentions when it fits their initial preconceptions

That a supposed leftist(usually concerned with the oppressed) can defend the IRGC which slaughters 10000s of unarmed Iranians simply for demanding a say in government and a decent life/water/food is crazy.

I say this as someone who wishes he would've kept a clean house.. we need brave leaders who don't allow corruption(which is his case at the very least: regarding corrupt subordinates and inner circle). The right wing is just nuts over there.

It's anti-american sentiment. Certain leftists are only anti-imperialists regarding regimes connected to the usa. They see anything that's against the usa as righteous. Conspiratorial thinking

What do u mean by supermajority? Do u mean reaching an absolute majority with PSOE+Sumar? Also could u link something to politicized judicial appointments? There's so much politicization of the judiciary in spain that it's hard to follow

Not getting enough traction, but have clearly exposed the tankie and populist left for being useless complainers without any results or actionable policy. The left bloc party's SOLE MP went on a flotilla to gaza.

I'm happy that in Portugal we have a left/green eurofederalist party that has very sane foreign policy views. Aside: They had an entryist problem(reminds me of EngWalesGreen) with EP elections. Too small of a party membership made it easy for a coordinated group to hijack the open candidacy.
