Naval Base San Diego is home to 24,000 US Navy personnel. It is home to the US Pacific fleet, consisting of about 50 ships. A nuclear attack on San Diego would decimate the US Navy, leading to certain defeat in Iran and the total cessation of US naval operations in the Pacific. WTF?

Kotek’s biggest mistake will prove to be letting ODOT close I-5 for weeks just 2 months before a general election. Tens of thousands of pissed off voters will be stuck in the gridlock. Drazan will utilize the anger to paint Kotek as an incompetent administrator. Attack ads will write themselves.

I went there looking for the fight club in the basement. I couldn’t find it. According to the Nicholas Cage movie “Pig”, all the best chefs in Portland duke it out down there. The winner gets to open a new restaurant. PDX is a tough market to crack, but I didn’t think it was that tough.

It has long been my contention that the horrendous stagflation of the early 1970s made the Watergate prosecutions possible. People were so pissed off at Nixon over the economy that they were willing to entertain the notion that the POTUS could be prosecuted. Trump is about to be likewise crippled.

No oil transport ship has even been struck yet, and already the insurance companies and shippers are closing the Straits preemptively. No real need for Iranian military action, just the threat of it is enough to cripple the oil trade.

Folks in the auto industry are going to see slower job growth if this bridge stays closed. Too many supply chains cross thru Canada. Maybe even job losses. Macomb will definitely be affected. And Detroit, where many suburbanites rely on hospitals staffed by Canadian health care providers.

Marginally better than the cops getting it. Better use of funds would be to subsidize wages/medical benefits for vendor employees. I know a couple of those folks and they subsist on slave wages. I could care less about retaining Blazers as long as support staff is exploited.

Trust me. They have checked or are checking these people. Long ago I was subjected to a home invasion robbery in the middle of the night. Nobody got hurt, but the perp was armed. Detectives checked everybody: my brothers, the mailman, the furnace repair guy, the dog sitter, the lawn guy, everybody.

Lived in Portland for 18 years before getting priced out, and I now live in the suburbs. I refuse to use drive-thrus, but without them larger parking lots would be required to accommodate customers. This whole metro is a heat island contributing to global warming, and we don’t need more tarmac.

I lost an uncle in WWII. He was in the Eighth Air Force, and he died in aerial combat over Germany fighting Nazis. He is a revered hero in my family. I have contacted both of my US senators and my congressperson objecting to this new policy allowing swastikas to be displayed by Coast Guard members.

The National Guard in Oregon is confined to two bases. The courts will not let them deploy. They are not living in hotels -- they are living in tents and using porta potties. I suspect that morale is low, and that commanders are not confident that soldiers will carry out the mission.

There never was a general strike during the Great Depression in the 1930s. There were numerous individual strikes i.e. the Flint sit down strike and others. And Americans still got Social Security and progressive labor laws enacted.

UPDATE: US DOJ lawyers have filed a motion asking Judge Karin J. Immergut to dissolve 2nd, broader restraining order that bars president from placing any National Guard under federal control in Oregon. Though Immergut gave state 24 hrs to respond, the feds ask that she rule w/o state's response.
