...what is even worse is that it is not even consistently applied. AI promises to destroy millions of jobs, way more than majoring in anthropology or art history, and somehow it gets a pass. It is the accumulation of wealth (by a few) and not work that is actually worshipped.

Book covers for 1. The Shadeless Border by Jiyar Jahan Fard, translated by Chiya Parvizpur, Common Notions: On one side of the border, Azad’s mother stands in her grief, waiting to bury her son. On the other side, his uncle and cousins wait with his body, barred by unrelenting guards from bringing him home without a passport. Over the next twenty-four hours at the crossing, an uncanny tale unfolds through a chorus of surprising voices: Death and the Border speak to us like old friends; a coffin and a stringed instrument, both carved from the same tree, remember Azad’s family history. Set at the contested frontier between Iran and Iraq, Jiyar Jahan Fard’s masterpiece is a work of haunting intensity. https://www.commonnotions.org/buy/the-shadeless-border and 2. I Can Tell You the Version That Will Make You Take My Side by J Brooke, Driftwood Press: J Brooke's poetry begins in a childhood full of binaries, then navigates through an American queer / trans / nonbinary adulthood fraught with complexities including the question of top-surgery. https://www.driftwoodpress.com/our-books/i-can-tell-you-the-version-that-will-make-you-take-my-side
