I am watching a Kennedy doc. They asked an old man after Kennedy was shot, "How do you feel?" He said, "..everyone hates each other in this country." 1963 This hate really kicked in AFTER the Civil War. AFTER Reconstruction.

I am reading this excellent book but it is heartbreaking because the mindset post Civil War is the same as it is now. Liberals ended up conceding to the Confederates demands in the name of 'reconciliation.' Devastation for Black people. All gains Black people have made, they made themselves.

I am reading, 'The Barn', about Emmitt Till's murder. All were acquitted by an all white jury for those who are unaware. My most prevalent feeling, reading it, is helplessness. Are we still helpless after 70 years? Surely not!

Gives one a bit more empathy towards the Germans during The Third Reich. Berlin was all la tee da. This is a great book about an American Ambassador and his family in Berlin during Hitler's rule and all the changes that came with him. They were all slow to realize. Excellent!
