PHOTOGRAPHER (x1) Photographers take pictures of the event as it happens with your phone’s camera (if you have one - please let the volunteer organizer know in your email), and upload them to an event-specific Google Drive Folder account before the end of the weekend.

INFO DESK / TABLE COVERAGE (x2) Info Desk will answer low-stakes questions for attendees and provide lunch or bathroom breaks for tablers when needed.

GREETER (x3) Greeters stand by the entrance to the symposium to offer masks to maskless attendees and help keep track of attendance numbers by handing out stickers. Greeters are the most needed volunteer, historically.

Each day is divided into three shifts: 11am-1pm 1pm-3pm 3pm-5pm Shifts and roles will be filled on a First Come-First Serve basis. The roles needed are as follows:

The event is fully free to enter and guests are welcome to free workshops, panels, and discussions. This year, the event will be held October 17th and 18th and will be located at Smith Memorial Student Union, 1825 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97201 in the Ballroom.

The Portland Zine Symposium is quickly approaching, and they still need volunteers! PZS has been hosting a yearly free conference and zine social exploring and celebrating the wonderful world of independent publishing and DIY culture right here in Portland, Oregon since 2001.

Candidates should have excellent communication skills across multiple platforms (email, chat, Zoom, in person), strong organizational and administrative capabilities, basic computer skills (Google suite, Microsoft Office suite), and the ability to work independently.

Interns’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining editorial files, researching reference material, managing internal paperwork, utilizing databases and digital resources, reviewing creative materials, maintaining quality control, and proofreading.

These two work days will be scheduled upon acceptance to the program. Internships are conducted in person two days a week from 9am to 5pm. at our offices in Milwaukie, Oregon.

To qualify for the position, applicants must receive college or university credit for the internship. Interns will be expected to work two eight-hour days per week and keep normal office hours (9am to 5pm), which include a lunch break.

Dark Horse offers unpaid editorial internships on a limited basis. Internships may be offered for spring, summer, fall, and winter terms and last approximately three months. One or two internships are offered per term.
