The Spirit from October 9, 1949. Art by Will Eisner & Jerry Grandenetti, with letters by Abe Kanegson.
The top of the page is an image of the Spirit. Under his is his logo sitting in a hill that is part of the graveyard he lives in. At the bottom of the page is the skyline of the city. On the hill, it reads "To the north of Central City, on a hill overlooking the bustling metropolis, lies abandoned Wildwood Cemetery. Here, hidden in the tangled weedy growth, is the hideaway of the Spirit. Accepted by police as a friendly 'outlaw' and feared by the underworld, his true identity is still a mystery. Who is really the man behind the mask? Every so often, someone tries to find out..."

For a director who's been dead 46 years, Alfred Hitchcock seems oddly well represented with still-living leading players: Kim Novak, Tippi Hedren, Diane Baker, Julie Andrews, Vera Miles, Bruce Dern, Shirley MacLaine, William Devane, Veronica Cartwright, and let's not forget Jerry Mathers.

I think I agree because I don't think we are capable, even in the far future, of every implemting such a punishment fairly, so I don't think it will practically exist.

I just meant the basic concept that if you commit a heinous crime like premeditated murder or rape, the idea of the death penalty sounds fair to me. But I also think we are incapable of ever implementing that in a fair way because racism is so baked in to our 'justice' system.
