69. Hollow Knight: Silksong I’m absolutely floored by the quality of this game. Some fans aren’t ready to place it above the lofty heights of the original Hollow Knight, and while I love the first game, my experience with Silksong felt truly special. It was slow going and painful but so worth it!

65. Freedom Planet 2 Played the first one years ago in an LP. I was excited to hear they were making a sequel but it flew under my radar until now. That’s a shame, because this is probably my favorite “Sonic-like” I’ve ever played. And it looks great, upgrading to a 32-bit style from lat game’s 16.

61. Planet Hulk A trade collection of one of the best Hulk story arcs. Hulk’s stranded on a strange planet with its own deep history and culture for what amounts to a pretty grand war story. A lot of elements were adapted into Thor Ragnarok, but the original is much, MUCH grittier.

58. King of the Hill: Season 15 The second season of the KotH revival, and things are still going pretty well. Scenes can be a little awkward sometimes, which is sort of part of KotH, sometimes not all the jokes land, but I’m so invested in these characters and it’s always great checking in.

57. Pseudoregalia Another Steamcember game I got back to. This is an indie 3D platformer, very short but with amazing vibes and even better movement. The graphics harken back to the N64/PS1 era, with blocky models, limited frames and misty draw distance adding to the dreamlike mood.

23. Ant-Man (Scott Lang) I think it’s time for one of the most important mantles of the Avengers to get a character slot. Injustice 2 managed to make a shrinking character work with the Atom. I think combining that with ant swarms as traps, some Giant-Man big hits, and other PymTech would be great.

22. Sunspot (Roberto de Costa) See now I’m thinking more about fighting styles to represent. Sunspot could work similar to Human Torch, but I think the better move is to focus on his capoeira training with a lot of smooth low-hits and combos out of crouching stance. Also maybe charge inputs.

21. Jessica Jones I want her as sort of a play on Mike Haggar, smaller but just as strong, pulling out furniture and hunks of trash to break over people’s heads. Maybe also some drunken fighter mechanics? Especially I want to hear her exasperated call-outs to her teammates mid battle.

20. The Hood (Parker Robbins) This guy was recently put into Rivals and I see why. He’s a villain that’s less evil and more just selfish, with cool powers. He could use his invisible cloak to escape pins, his boots for cool aerials, and his magic guns for curving projectiles. Maybe demons too.

19. Invisible Woman (Sue Storm) None of the FF were ever in MvC, but Sue wasn’t even really in Super Skrull’s moveset! Invisible Woman would be a rare smaller tank of a character, with a lot of forcefields and maybe projectile reflection. Her assists could also be extremely fun.

18. Dani Moonstar A mutant with the power to manifest people’s greatest fears OR deepest desires. Plus she’s great with a bow and arrow AND became a Valkyrie, so there’s a ton to work with here. I’m picturing a FEAR status that slows down blocking. If she can summon her own fear, the Demon Bear!

17. Slingshot (Yo-Yo Rodriguez) My most obscure inclusion so far, Slingshot is a SHIELD agent with super speed, the catch being that after using her speed, she snaps back to the place she started, like a yo-yo. Having an insanely fast character with this gimmick could make for great mind games.

15. Human Torch (Johnny Storm) I’m surprised this guy never got a good fighting game build, as far as I know. He could be kinda like M. Bison but on fire, torpedoing around. Maybe light projectile game but he’s usually more of a speedy missile character.

14. Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd) I’m picturing him sliding around casually using the Power Cosmic for crazy effects and blocking things with little effort. The board can be a projectile that lingers on the field when he kicks it forward, and has a wide spin if he can get back to it.

9. Doctor Voodoo (Jericho Drum) A curveball play on Doctor Strange. Jericho has also been Sorcerer Supreme so you can give him the Eye of Agamotto and the Cape of Levitation. But he’d be based on summoning ghosts, including his brother’s ghost who always protects him.

8. Viv Vision Original Vision would already be cool, with his forehead laser, phasing and ability to become immovably dense. Viv feels more like the TOKON curveball, with all the same abilities as a cute robot girl. I think she and Danger would have a lot to talk about.

7. Man-Thing (Ted Sallis) Similar to Groot with the plant-like physiology, but Man-Thing is much softer and squelchier. I’m picturing a big slow guy but with a startling teleport to slip into the ground and rise somewhere else. You also get that empathetic touch that burns characters based on fear.

6. Medusa (Medusalith Amaquelin) TOKON’s not afraid of obscure picks, so let’s dip into the Inhumans with their Queen! Once again, tendrils always make for a good character. You could get real crazy with how she moves, maybe she walks and punches all with her hair. I imagine she’s a grappler.

5. Squirrel-Girl (Doreen Green) I mean, acrobatic zoner that still has a decent amount of close-up options. I could also see her Ult using Galactus or one of the other cosmic entities she’s befriended. This version of her will have to be nerfed so she’s beatable.

4. Groot Get Star-Lord a fellow Guardian here. Characters who can change their shape give you a lot to work with. He can be a mighty glacier, a zoner with stretchy limbs, a trap setter with routes, or some kinda hybrid. Easy stuff. You could combine him with Rocket too if you want.

3. Rogue (Anna Marie) You got the regular flying brick moveset, but she can also be fun with her touch letting her sap energy from people. Maybe you could even work in a Kirby-like copy system. Each opponent gives her a new move, or maybe just buffs some kinda stat if that’s too much work.

1. Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner) My favorite X-Men character, maybe my favorite Marvel character, and I ALWAYS wanted him in a decent fighting game. Surprised he was never in MvC! He teleports and hard swords! Plus you can do dorky stuff like having him teleport in objects and brimstone demons.

56. Yakuza Kiwami Had a good time, but this was a little different than I expected. Being both a remake of the first game and a follow-up to Yakuza 0 is interesting. I’m not surprised how much it looks and plays like Y0, I was surprised this game felt so much smaller than 0 though.

Iron Man’s a character I like much more in the MCU than most comics, look wise. So sticking to MCU, and I want an armor that hits a good balance between slick and still kinda robotic. I think the best is the MK VI from the end of Iron Man 2. The triangular chest light clinches it.

Gotta go with his Star Fox Assault design. 64 is fine, but I think Adventures Slippy has more personality, and Assault refined it before Command stepped in with its ugly geometric style. I think this design communicates that he’s a smart, positive guy with serious little-brother energy.
