I mean I don't know what other subtext choking a man while calling him "my little glo-worm" would have, but it sure ain't straight. Namor's always been & continues to be complicated in all kinds of ways...but its likely GA Namor/Torch is what boys interviewed by Wertham would have caught on to

February 22 It's Namor's 104th Birthday! Happy Birthday to Namor the First, Prince of Atlantis, Emperor of the Deep, Lord of the Seven Seas and Commander of the Undersea Legions

incoming bad photoshop alert
a grumpy looking Namor holding his trident with a party hat pasted on his head emblazoned with the words "Birthday Boy!". He is surrounded by sea life who also have party hats pasted on their heads. All the figures are on an underwater background. To Namor's left are balloon shaped into the words "Happy Birthday". The H in Happy and the a in Birthday are also wearing party hats, and why not. Up and to the right of Namor is inset the image of Namor's "Registered Hero" identification card, and circled in red is his DOB (Date Of Birth): 2/22/1922

Its my main consolation that those most invested in spitting the most shitty bile about Namor seem to know the least. A character coming up on 9 decades of publishing, thousands of comics, & all they know of is like a half-dozen Fantastic Four stories Sorry haters Namor is a prince of romance

It was real IIRC Dennis Hopeless confirmed that was the pitch, it got far enough that the cover artist did up some "romance novel" style covers with them together. The confirmation might be lost to social media I think, but this article from the time talks about it bleedingcool.com/comics/the-i...
