A childhood dream realised, in no small part due to the support, encouragement and training I received at @bbkhistorical.bsky.social and @archanchistleic.bsky.social. I'll never stop being grateful for my life changing time spent with each.

At least you don't have to fill in forms, Alexandra. We get the emails, too, but ours have forms attached. Pointless emails and pointless forms. That must be filled in by insert deadline that is at once arbitrary and the most inconvenient that could be imagined.

We have journalists who can't differentiate between countable and uncountable nouns, but by all means let's continue to chip away at the substance of our curriculum. More fucking about outside with pine cones, less boring thinking.

I would echo much of the advice here, although I would caution against Smithfield. Southside, Stephens Green or Merrion Sq. as focal point. Buswell's Hotel is excellently situated, a very old-fashioned smaller hotel. Not necessarily the cheapest, but you'll be shocked at room prices here generally.

Regarding the Kimmel situation, an overlooked but urgent cause for concern is the fact that nobody seems to know what 'preempt' means. From the initial statement by ABC or whoever, to actual journalists deploying the word in the same incorrect sense, the implications for modern literacy are dire.

If you can, make time to watch Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron on Netflix. It's two hours long, 85% of which consists of Miyazaki at his desk or kitchen counter staring with subdued intensity into the distance. But it's also a beautiful meditation on aging, loss and creativity. Stunning.
