"...in every rejected migrant, it is Christ himself who knocks at the door of the community." Pope Leo XIV Dilexi te, 2025
"The Church, like a mother, accompanies those who are walking,"
"Where the world sees threats, she sees children; where walls are built, she builds bridges. She knows that her proclamation of the Gospel is credible only when it is translated into gestures of closeness and welcome. And she knows that in every rejected migrant, it is Christ himself who knocks at the door of the community."

I had always wondered, assuming the time, weather, energy, all lined up perfectly, would I be willing to take on The Knifes Edge on Mt Katahdin? The odds against everything lining up to find out were long, but they happened, and we did! It was definitely a wild stretch, but I'm glad we did it!

More than that, they talk, share, and jointly approach this work with state staff as partners and include municipal staff as well. If you ever wonder why land conservation is so robust in Massachusetts you should know that the MLTC is right at the center of a lot of that collaboration 2/3

The Fortune article on the 1st org chart is paywalled, but the article, like the chart it shares, is beautiful! It's for a railroad company & it captures the organic nature of the relationships & functions in a way no pyramid or set of stacked boxes could. This isnt just lines of authority I <3 this
The organizational chart is more like a piece of patterned lace capturing root networks and branches of leavesEach role on the chart has its own symbology making the pattern both more elaborate but also more meaningful

“Twain is funny and important today because his comedy is a hilarious celebration of our fears, our ineptitude and the glorious mess of being human.” If we are to truly celebrate Twain, he said, "We acknowledge our commonality and we move just a little closer together."

“It has everything to do with comedy. Everything. The comedy I have loved all my life is comedy that’s self-critical, deflating and dedicated to the proposition that we are all flawed, absurd and wallowing in the mud together."

Above all, Twain was a patriot in the best sense of the word. He loved America but knew it was deeply flawed. Twain wrote, ‘Patriotism is supporting your country all of the time & your government when it deserves it.” O’Brien suggested some might ask what does this have to do w comedy, & concluded:

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrowmindedness, and many our people need it sorely on these accounts.” “Twain was suspicious of populism, jingoism, imperialism, the money-obsessed mania of the gilded age and any expression of mindless American might or self-importance.

Colin Novick @colinnovick.bsky.social · 24/03/2025
Twain empathized with the powerless in America. Former slaves struggling in reconstruction, immigrant Chinese laborers in California and European Jews fleeing antisemitism.” Noting Twain’s remedy for ignorance was to travel the world, O’Brien quoted his words:

Colin Novick @colinnovick.bsky.social · 24/03/2025
He punched up, not down & he deeply, deeply empathized with the weak.” O’Brien continued, “Twain was allergic to hypocrisy and he loathed racism. Twain wrote, ‘There are many humorous things in the world, among them the white man’s notion that he is less savage than the other savages.’
