Level 2 – Significant Drought MA EEA Sec. Tepper declared worsened drought conditions. April precip was well below normal. The current drought, began in 2024, continues to affect streamflow, vernal pools & ponds, fish migrations & declining groundwater, and is drying out vegetation & ground cover.

Massachusetts map of drought conditions. Nantucket and Central Mass are shown as Significant Drought in orange, and Berkshires, Cape, and Marthas Vineyard are shown as Mild Drought in yellow.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has issued the latest drought map. Most of Worcester County (thankfully) has been downgraded to just "Abnormally Dry." Still worth it to be thoughtful with watering and fires out there! But at least it is a little better. #Drought #Massachusetts #Conservation

Massachusetts Drought Index Update: Despite recent snowfall totals, local fuels (woody debris) continue to dry out. This is primarily due to the snow being light and powdery, containing minimal moisture and providing little penetration into the fuels. #firedanger #drought #Massachusetts
