Seeing a lot of people today post some variation of "TikTok needs to be banned because it's rotted everyone's brains." It's not TikTok. You're uncomfortable with how normal people use the internet — which will always be strange and ugly — and you'll say the same thing about whatever replaces TikTok.

The stark contrast of Christmas with a wholesome, kind family and my abusive upbringing was such a trigger for me. This year when they came down to see us, I truly had such a wonderful time. I was at peace with peace. I felt at home with them.

Five years ago I told my husband that I wasn’t sure I could go to Christmas at his family’s again. Not because they were awful, but because they were great. And that was too painful. My house had not been a home growing up. My dad was a drunk all year, but especially the holidays.
