Just a reminder that NWS is considered essential during a government shutdown. Meteorologists will still go to work, forecasts will still be made, watches and warnings will be issued, data will flow. We won’t be paid until the shutdown ends, but we’ll still protect life and property as always.

“It was a bust” Nope. Multiple significant tors and fatalities occurred with at least 37 tornado reports so far. Just because you didn’t get your disaster porn in a heavily populated area doesn’t mean the forecast was a bust. Some of y’all need therapy.

Probationary Period

This is to provide notification that I am

terminating you from the position of a federal service consistent with the above references.

On January 13, 2025, the agency appointed you
to the position of Meteorologist. As documented on
your appointment Standard Form 50 (SF-50),
your
appointment is subject to the completion of a
probationary/trial period. The agency also
informed you of this requirement in the job
opportunity announcement for the position.


Guidance from the Office of Personnel
Management ("OPM") states, "An
appointment is not final until the probationary
period is over," and the probationary period
is part of "the hiring process for employees." (1)
"A probationer is still an applicant for a
finalized appointment to a particular position as

From a colleague: "make sure to file appeal with MSPB and look into joining 1 of class action suits. Filing for unemployment sometimes goes retroactive and only works once you file, it depends on state. Folks need both an SF-8 and SF-50 to file for unemployment (plus pay stubs)"
