Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026For The 44 North, I wrestle with some very relevant social ills (and quote Simone Weil a lot)the44north.caBraiding a Ladder: Blood and TearsThere’s a quote from the late French philosopher Simone Weil that’s been reverberating in my head ever since reading the harrowing CNN article: “To exclude human beings […] thrusting them down to the ... 010
Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026My memory is famously shit, but I vividly remember walking in on my Dad watching this scene in Hot Fuzz when I was 10, and for years I thought it was a super graphic horror film. 000
Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 02/10/2026This came up on my feed this morning and I can't stop thinking about it. O to be the modest shit hound How strange it is to be anything at all 110

And I couldn't be more excited to announce our first project: ARCHIVE: Shinya Tsukamoto, a collaboration with, well, Shinya Tsukamoto. I've never been more proud of anything I've ever done. 1931375

Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Just finished reading thru @zetapaul.bsky.social's graphic novel Borderline and y'all... Don't sleep on this. Some of the best character designs I've seen in a long time. Anyone working in comics/video games etc that needs an character/environment artist would be stupid not to reach out imo. 020
Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 01/09/2026While this film is certainly about Being Trans, I think it's about desire more generally. Fwiw, TSADACM is incredibly indebted to Catching the Big Fish. It is about orgasms and the creative act because they are of a kind. This is zoomer Mulholland Dr. 060

Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 28/08/2026#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched This year, I wanted to double my reading and movie intake; so far I'm at 24 books and 52 movies, which I'm quite happy with. I've read and seen some great stuff (also some bad stuff)--there's too much stuff! 0170

Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 07/08/2026#lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday The emotion Todd Haynes is able to evoke with dolls is genuinely incredible. Such a haunting, impactful film, and some of the best editing I've seen in a while! 0160

Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 31/07/2026I also like the body horror elements (Polyphemus looked so good, and the sound!!!!). But having Odysseus perfectly sublimate his guilt makes him far less complicated and, imo, human than in Homer. 110
Cole @coleboy.bsky.social · 31/07/2026By turning Odysseus into a perfect Catholic subject, Nolan's Odyssey becomes an entertaining but ultimately uninteresting adaptation. There are things I like: the trojan horse as original sin, marking the transition from the world of antiquity to modernity, is a fine take. 110
