for most outsource studios, gen AI is attractive because being quicker and cheaper is an advantage. it means they can take on more contracts, which means more business. if they get told not to use gen AI, all incentives are pointed towards continuing to, and just doing a better job covering it up.

I've witnessed cases where contractors stole designs from other artists online, and that had to be redone after - this is already a persistent issue. now add on gen AI to the list and every single asset must be scrutinized not just for if it's original work, but if it was even made by a human.

like, it's not a huge deal, but I don't always keep up with what's a single or a full release, so especially if I am browsing an artist I'm less familiar with, it means I often have to look elsewhere for what releases are the "big" ones I should care about.

finished Princess Peach Showtime. i don’t think i’m going to try all the post game stuff, having to replay basically the entire game just to get 100% seems bad. but it was a reasonably fun time at least, and seeing Peach go full anime magical girl at the end was pretty great.

the levels are already really short (10-15 minutes) and completely linear and straightforward, but I swear half my time in them is just poking my face into every corner and mashing buttons to see if I'm missing anything.

another issue is all the spots in levels where it's unclear whether something is an important interactive object you can do something with. the game doesn't pop up a prompt on things, it doesn't always put a sparkle/etc. on them... just basic legibility stuff you'd think they'd be way better about.

like, the number of times I've let my character stand there for 5 seconds because I'm unsure if I'm in a cutscene or gameplay, or didn't realize there was a quick-time-event happening, is pretty high. they could easily have just added some letterboxing and button prompts on-sceen to fix that stuff.

Princess Peach Showtime is pretty good as far as kid-focused games go, but there are some pretty obvious issues with it messaging what objects are interactive, where the points-of-no-return in levels are, whether something is a cutscene or not, etc.
