Thanks Partner and I actually lucked into the same family doctor about ten years ago. When I got pregnant, doc was going to take the baby, too. By the time baby arrived, doc had stopped taking any new patients. The care at the unattached newborn clinic has been great, though.

Had a similar experience with the census. What language(s) does this resident speak? Comprehend? Ummm... baby isn't forming consonants yet, but has the best giggles when I ask "who's my stinky little baby?" and "oh my goodness, who peed in your diaper?"

"In the last month, I have not been able to move from room to room..." There is no option for "this is for a literal baby" Same baby who tried to chomp my laptop during a teams meeting a few hours ago

Filling out the "Need a Family Doctor" registry for my baby. Not sure to answer questions like "did you need help to complete this questionnaire" or "Do you rely on help from another person for things like grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning?"

Was really bummed to hear a favourite podcaster give AI note-taking a heartfelt endorsement Is the convenience worth the knowledge that they’re definitely stealing your ideas?

Was out for a stroller nap this afternoon and told a driver “you shouldn’t be on your phone right now” Her response was “mind your own business” Excuse me, ma’am, but your distracted driving is absolutely my business when I’m about to step in front of your car WITH MY BABY

Somehow opposed to water bottle filling stations and shade

I think they sound great Water fountains, water bottle filling stations, and shade. All of these things make existing outside as an active transit user easier. Even if you don’t personally need these, many of us will benefit Hot summer days are becoming more frequent. This is a real need

You don’t need to agree with every editorial to see the value in journalists willing to criticize those in power. If we’re not willing to pay for local independent journalism, then we only get to read what the oligarchs permit. There is a reason the super wealthy are buying up media outlets

Cyclists don’t ride into open doors of cars, ffs. Drivers fling their doors open without checking, and kill us in the process.

Pedestrianization is often framed as transforming streets. In many cases, we're actually restoring them. We're reclaiming what's been lost: social connection, local commerce, civic life, and human-scale movement. Perhaps it's time to shift from street transformation to street restoration.

Whatever other consequences, the Costco racist tirade loser faces, he is almost certainly going to lose his Costco membership as well extra level of stupidity to go off like that in a place where you need to scan an ID to enter. Even if he was there as a guest, I suspect they already know who he is

Thankfully it didn’t wake the baby last night, but it woke up us poor sleep-deprived parents who would otherwise have gotten an additional hour before the next feed

We need a different sound for “there is a missing vulnerable person, please watch for them” and “there is a situation that is potentially life threatening to the general public” That emergency alert sound is hard to come down from I know I’m not the first person to say this

Maybe I’m in a different bubble of the internet than you (sincerely-even my partner and I experience the internet so differently) I’ve been seeing a lot of criticism about the government supporting it while cutting programs in our communities, and complaints about the disruption to the ferry

From what I remember, in 2024 Halifax was super into SailGP This year, we are not having it. Is it: 1. Houston continuing to support it while defunding community and arts organizations 2. General rage at billionaires as the world burns 3. Cancelled ferry trips 4. Something else?

Why on earth did I think it was such a good idea to get a farm share while home with my baby? When this little guy is hungry, toast is a luxury. I thought I would somehow have time to prep and cook vegetables!? I guess I just need to cook when the baby cooks

Thankfully adults kept their hands off my belly. Not sure if it was my vibe or if society has gotten better. Students were a different story, though. But if you’re a child I’ll gently remind you to ask first Adults will go for baby’s hands as if they don’t know that babies suck on their fingers
030
Jen Tee @coffeeandchamomile.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
If that’s too challenging, you can start at the “ask first” level If you feel awkward asking, that’s because it’s usually overstepping to ask to touch a baby you aren’t connected to or caring for I get to squish those little cheeks because I’m also doing the 3am feeds and diaper changes

I’d like to invite you to participate in the STOP TOUCHING MY BABY challenge To participate, when you’re out and about and see a cute baby in a stroller, you DON’T TOUCH Seriously. I get the temptation. My baby is squishy and adorable You’re a stranger. Even my dad had to sanitize his hands first

North End Baking co if you’re ever downtown while they’re open Chocolate tofu pie from wooden monkey. Peanut butter pie from east street diner. Carrot cake from Evan’s fish and chips. Bonfire has good chocolate chip cookies that they serve warm. They have other desserts I haven’t tried yet

Conservatives see the education budget and wish they could divert the spending to their corporate pals. Groups like AIMS are going to start questioning teacher professionalism because they would prefer that money to be spent on prepackaged curriculum, standardized tests, and specialized software

4. Back to inflation. The cost of everything is going up. The cost of heating old buildings, bussing students, building new facilities, maintaining old infrastructure…
120
Jen Tee @coffeeandchamomile.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
3. Two brand new major expenditures (the pre primary program and the subsidized school lunch program) were added to the education budget within the time frame addressed by Gov charts
120
Jen Tee @coffeeandchamomile.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
1. Adjusted for inflation, spending per student hasn’t actually increased. 2. The largest budget line in the education budget is salaries. Support workers in education are not paid a living wage, and while teacher salaries did increase last contract, they have not kept up with inflation.
131
Jen Tee @coffeeandchamomile.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
NSGov is cutting teaching positions, and trotting out the rationale that “spending has increased but student outcomes have not” Conservatives love this talking point, and they especially live to use it while going into negotiations (NSTU contract is up soon)

Masks are optional again as of April 15, but still encouraged for those with respiratory symptoms Even when they were “required” by experience was that compliance was low. Many healthcare workers would offer to mask up when they saw mine, but I’d say the majority were unmasked through the winter

In a crowded waiting room at the IWK and less than 1/8 of the people here are masked (and some of those have them down under their chin) We can do better, folks. We’re in a room full of pregnant folks who face heightened risk from Covid Also, multiple ppl playing loud videos from their phones

But the arts, culture, and heritage also keep money circulating. A road trip to a museum or theatre will involve at least 1 ice cream stop (if not meals and a hotel stay) Each dollar invested in the arts leads to $29 circulating in our local economies.

To them, things worth investing in are big corporations, natural resources, and highways. And yes, we do need these things But we also need things that spark joy and connection. Shows to see, interesting places to visit, programs for young people AND adults.

Our politicians do not value labour that makes our communities more connected, more vibrant, and more human. I suspect our gov fully expects that volunteers and organizations will pick up the slack. Just like our former premier expected women to manage childcare
192
Jen Tee @coffeeandchamomile.bsky.social · 28/02/2026
Most of these organizations have a few (under)paid staff, and rely hugely on volunteer hours and fundraising to make things happen. The funds being cut are a small budget line for the government, but are devastating for the effected organizations.
130
Jen Tee @coffeeandchamomile.bsky.social · 28/02/2026
It's hard to explain, but to me, the NSian cuts to arts and culture carry echoes of Premier McNeil's comments about covid-era childcare being dealt with "organically" Like caregiving, the "soft" work of community building, place making, and storytelling is not viewed as worthy of investment
