Filling out the "Need a Family Doctor" registry for my baby. Not sure to answer questions like "did you need help to complete this questionnaire" or "Do you rely on help from another person for things like grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning?"

Was really bummed to hear a favourite podcaster give AI note-taking a heartfelt endorsement Is the convenience worth the knowledge that they’re definitely stealing your ideas?

Was out for a stroller nap this afternoon and told a driver “you shouldn’t be on your phone right now” Her response was “mind your own business” Excuse me, ma’am, but your distracted driving is absolutely my business when I’m about to step in front of your car WITH MY BABY

You don’t need to agree with every editorial to see the value in journalists willing to criticize those in power. If we’re not willing to pay for local independent journalism, then we only get to read what the oligarchs permit. There is a reason the super wealthy are buying up media outlets

Pedestrianization is often framed as transforming streets. In many cases, we're actually restoring them. We're reclaiming what's been lost: social connection, local commerce, civic life, and human-scale movement. Perhaps it's time to shift from street transformation to street restoration.

Whatever other consequences, the Costco racist tirade loser faces, he is almost certainly going to lose his Costco membership as well extra level of stupidity to go off like that in a place where you need to scan an ID to enter. Even if he was there as a guest, I suspect they already know who he is

We need a different sound for “there is a missing vulnerable person, please watch for them” and “there is a situation that is potentially life threatening to the general public” That emergency alert sound is hard to come down from I know I’m not the first person to say this

From what I remember, in 2024 Halifax was super into SailGP This year, we are not having it. Is it: 1. Houston continuing to support it while defunding community and arts organizations 2. General rage at billionaires as the world burns 3. Cancelled ferry trips 4. Something else?

Why on earth did I think it was such a good idea to get a farm share while home with my baby? When this little guy is hungry, toast is a luxury. I thought I would somehow have time to prep and cook vegetables!? I guess I just need to cook when the baby cooks

I’d like to invite you to participate in the STOP TOUCHING MY BABY challenge To participate, when you’re out and about and see a cute baby in a stroller, you DON’T TOUCH Seriously. I get the temptation. My baby is squishy and adorable You’re a stranger. Even my dad had to sanitize his hands first

NSGov is cutting teaching positions, and trotting out the rationale that “spending has increased but student outcomes have not” Conservatives love this talking point, and they especially live to use it while going into negotiations (NSTU contract is up soon)

It's hard to explain, but to me, the NSian cuts to arts and culture carry echoes of Premier McNeil's comments about covid-era childcare being dealt with "organically" Like caregiving, the "soft" work of community building, place making, and storytelling is not viewed as worthy of investment

I’ve gotta say, I am a big fan of NSian pharmacists being able to write prescriptions for minor ailments Booked the first appointment of the morning and was home with a prescription within an hour. So much better than playing walk-in roulette, and frees doctors up for more serious issues

To put it mildly - I’m not impressed. I had hoped the mayor was finished grandstanding, posturing, and pitting himself against council, but apparently he’s still building his case for ’strong mayor’ powers by setting up losing fights so he can prove that council won’t work ‘with’ him.

This People in the suburbs are sooo sure that they are subsidizing our fancy city life, but it’s really the other way around It’s much more expensive to deliver services to lower density areas The cap ensures that renters and new home buyers pay more than their share

How about instead of eliminating Sunday and Holiday busses, council eliminates Sunday and Holiday plowing? Oh, people have places to go on Sundays, too? You don’t say… Yes I’m writing my councillor, but this is such a backwards suggestion that I’m annoyed I need to waste my time on it

Riding the bus Sunday morning to get to work, and I just want to have words with the people in HRM who think Sunday/Holiday busses are somehow an extravagant luxury Or are they planning to scale it back, but think this will make the fare increase more palatable?

Very specific Nova Scotian issue Since OPOR, I am issued a plastic-y hospital bracelet at each of my OB appointments They show your full legal name and birth date, so I would normally shred it But it’s not paper, so if you care about sorting your recycling, it’s an extra layer of annoying

Can we stop pretending that the US is a safe third country for migrants? I would also love to see media pushback on the word “illegal.” The IRB uses the term “irregular crossings,” which is much less dehumanizing Speaking about “illegal crossings” feels like a lazy adoption of American terms

If the construction of a new building blocks my sidewalk access for months at a time… I will harbour an irrational grumpiness towards that building even years after it is completed. Doubly so if it closed the sidewalks without adding crosswalks in a convenient location on BOTH sides

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque: "This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
Bronze plaque saying "A Letter to the Future. Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it. August 2019. 415ppm CO2"
