Also, the ability to plug the audiogram into Apple Health, and then my AirPods are automatically adjusted across all of my devices has also been huge.

An odd side effect, is the slight tinnitus I had before basically disappears when I have them on. Tinnitus is weird and YMMV, but worth it for that alone.

A bit over a year in hearing aids, and honestly: go get your hearing checked. Just had an updated test and adjusted my fitting some… and it is like I hear in 4k now.

The options for self-hosted/oss here seem more than a little complex.

So, I need to lock down a children’s iPad for use with a few kids. Looks like the only way to do that is via Shared iPad and MDM. Which, feels overkill for home.

The inexorable procession of these phenomena continues undiminished, defying all reasonable expectation of reprieve.

After the hearing test yesterday, switched back from custom molds to some basically non-existent super open vented domes, and holy heck, this is the best hearing aid day in a LONG while.

The most dangerous thing about AI is not that the machines might one day think. It is that we are being trained, by men with enormous financial gains riding on our acquiescence, to stop thinking for ourselves.

Been too long since I’ve made a proper Cubano.
Overhead shot of a stainless steel frothing pitcher mid-process: a spoon works the espuma for a café Cubano, whipping the first espresso drops and sugar into a thick, pale caramel-colored foam before the rest of the shot is added.A glass beer mug on dark granite holds a café Cubano - deep, dark espresso at the bottom crowned with a thick, domed layer of pale golden espuma. Ceramic corgi figurines and a stainless sugar shaker sit in the background.

Anyone use something like Rocket money but maybe oss, self-hosted, or otherwise privacy friendly?

In the most old person thing I’ve done this week: I left my hearing aids in the dryer overnight, so no I do the morning without them while they charge.

Once upon an OpenStack summit in Canada.
A weathered red couch sits abandoned on a mountain road, surrounded by evergreen forest with a snow-capped peak visible in the background under a bright blue sky. The juxtaposition of discarded furniture against pristine wilderness is both absurd and oddly poetic.

Got my Dad one of those “AI” bird identification feeders for his birthday. His favorite part so far, doesn’t seem to be bird identification… it is the fact that he can use the remote microphone to scare off the squirrels.
A plump squirrel stuffs its face at a bird feeder, completely unaware of what is about to happen.

Super mundane, but both my Polar and Wahoo heart rate straps are misbehaving. Polar only reporting HR for the first few minutes, but then staying connecting over BT. Wahoo reporting HR +/- 50bpm from what it is.

Starting to play around with OpenClaw and local models again. Liking it so far, but the limits of the LLMs that will run on the M1 are… well, limiting.

Ripped all of my old collection to lossless a few years back. New music is bought from various sources, and ripped into the collection. As for sharing the library around, that is something I’m still sorting out. There are a few self-hosted solutions, but none that are quite right.
