CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 27: Your favourite superhero film Ugh. I don't care for superhero films. But as a kid, those first two Spiderman and X-Men films were top tier cinema, do let's go with this one. Close second is Watchmen, this cinches it because I can be a kid again!! X-Men 2

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 26: A film that made you feel happy I saw with a bunch of streamers for that year's Berlinale and my god did it have me grinning from ear to ear and filling my heart with pure joy. It's tough in places but this is happiness in film form We Are Little Zombies

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 25: A film that inspired you 助けて。。。 It's been a while since I gave y'all a horror film to gawk at, so why not choose the film that inspired my undergrad dissertation as well as my own existential ennui and overwhelming sadness, eh? 助けて。。。 Pulse (Kairo)

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 24: A film made by your favourite director To say I quickly became enamoured with Masahiro Shinoda's work would be a gross understatement. And this one, though not quite my favourite of his, is a shining example of cinema at it's most deconstructed Himiko

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 23: A film that means a lot to you personally When I say this film is responsible for the puny human I have become, I understand red flags to be raised for some of y'all. But it is also a gross understatement. Nothing impacted me quite like this Battle Royale

Why anyone would have wanted to part with this is beyond me! £5 in my local Oxfam book shop and one very happy Ibex later, I feel like I've found the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! Culture sucks downwards, but today I'll allow myself to revel in this! #manicstreetpreachers

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 22: Your favourite film set in a fantasy world Does this count as a fantasy world? In an attempt to not go for the obviously obvious answer (you know the ones) I say that yes, yes this does. Goddamn I love this so much! Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 21: A film that made you want to fall in love Is this the healthiest film I could have picked for this? Far from it. But considering who I am, especially around the people I fall for, I saw a lot of myself in Miles. Hopefully not -as- pathetic! Sideways

It's been a month. What little joy I find in anything right now I snatch up. Because right now there is very little in my life that I can find any semblance of happiness. Falling back in love with the Manics and re-exploring jazz have been two things that light up this dark period for me.

I finally finished this last night, battling sleep to get those last ten pages read. Believe the soundbite on the front of this tome. The nonchalance with which Herr unfolds the horrors witnessed by combatants, civilians, and correspondents on both sides of the conflict is simply staggering.
