There's still time, the sale isn't over for another day and a half.

Forbidden Solitaire (PC) I didn't know I needed an horror/solitaire hybrid game with an 80s dark fantasy theme, but it turns out I did. Everything about this game is amazing, from the gameplay loop to the FMV videos, to the bonkers plot. I beat it in one sitting and can't recommend it enough.

Pokémon Legends ZA (Switch 2) The active battles were a nice change from traditional Pokémon games...for a while. Eventually it got kind of annoying. Which is kind of the thing with this game: new ideas that start off fun, but wear out their welcome by the end. Still a fun time overall, though.

Link's Awakening (Switch) A certified classic from the original Game Boy, remade with more modern graphics and QoL changes. It's not particularly challenging, but it's a lot of fun. To hell with that depressing-ass ending, though.

I've been seeing this game at my local store for years. I finally bought it, knowing nothing about it except the sequel is pricey.

Darkest Dungeon (PC) This took a while. One, because it's a long game, but two, because I'd play for a bit then shelve it for months. But I finally knuckled down and finished it. A brilliant game, and one I'll keep coming back to. It goes on sale all the time, so check it out if you haven't.

Fears to Fathom: Ironbark Lookout (PS5) It's a quaint horror walking sim. Takes about two hours to finish. I got this on sale for 4.79, and that should be the regular price (it's 11.99!). There's just not enough meat here to justify that price; you're paying mostly for the vibe. Easy plat, though.

Elden Ring (PS5) I did a quick NG+ run to get the frenzied flame ending and the platinum trophy. The game remains one of the best of the decade and the (current) pinnacle of the souls-like genre. That said, I'll never do this ending again because FUCK getting down to the Three Fingers.

Dragon Quest HD-2D Remake (PS5) What a fun take on the original. The graphical upgrades are amazing, and the QoL additions are very welcome, but at it's core this is still an old-school JRPG. It's not easy. It may actually be a bit harder than the original due to using the DQ3 engine. A great game.

Soma (PS4) I like the story of this game. The gameplay - specifically the monster sections - not so much. My recommendation would be to play in story mode so you can largely ignore the monsters, as otherwise it's just a bunch of trial and error to get past. I think it is worth playing, though.

Conarium (PS4) A walking sim sequel to At the Mountains of Madness. It's probably not bad if you've never been exposed to other such sequels, but for my money I'd rather just reread Hive by Tim Curran. At least it's easy to see both endings. Not really recommended unless there's a deep sale.

Luto (PS5) This is kind of a horror version of The Stanley Parable. It's very good, although it gets very heavy by the end. There were a few times I had to just wander about trying to suss out what to do, but overall I really enjoyed this game. Worth a play if somber horror is your thing.

Urban Myth Dissolution Center (PS5) Not a bad way to spend 10 hours or so. What gameplay there is is incredibly limited (fill in the blanks with no penalty for failure), but the story kept me going to the end. If VNs are your thing, this one is worth it if you can get it on a good sale.

Saga of the Moon Priestess (PS5) A fun little Zelda clone. The pixel graphics are great, the gameplay is a lot of fun, and the bosses are nice little challenges without being overwhelming. It's about four hours long - a very nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Silent Hill f (PS5) A game of two extremes. Cool story, very much a J-horror title. Atrocious gameplay. This souls-lite or whatever you want to call it that the devs went for is just not fun to me. I got the default ending and want to see more, but can't imagine playing it again. Off to Youtube!

Hell is Us (PS5) This is a good game that's a few steps shy of excellent. I love the throwback, no-handholding paradigm, it was a ton of fun. Combat though...Oof. Basically no variety in either enemies or attacks. And the bosses, such as they are, are terrible. Still, it's absolutely worth a play.

Frontier Hunter: Ezra's Wheel of Fortune (PS5) A passable metroidvania, though I was ready for it to be over well before the end (and I skipped post-game content). It doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but it's well-made and movement and combat are fluid. Worth it for the price I suppose.

Little Nightmares (PS4) A quaint little horror puzzle platformer. It was very intuitive for the most part, though there were a few areas where it wasn't clear you could actually make a jump because it was just at the absolute edge of your reach. I had a good enough time to check out the sequels.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 (PS5) I've played a lot of games. I'm also not one to give in to hype. That said, this is perhaps the best RPG I've played. It hits EVERY note perfectly, and I struggle to think of another game that does the same. An absolute experience of a game, everyone should play it

Pokemon Scarlet (Switch) I originally skipped this because of the well-documented performance issues, but with a shiny new Switch 2 in hand, I figured why not? I'm glad I did, this is most fun I've had with a Pokemon game since I played Emerald back in the day. An overall excellent game.

Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty (PS5) Man, what a ride. One of the true comeback stories of modern gaming. Everything about this game was a blast - it took me about 105 hours for this run (not 100%, but damned close) but it didn't feel like it, which is a rare trick in my experience.

Remnant 2 (PS5) A third person shooter with some soulslike elements. Overall I enjoyed it, though some bosses were horribly designed, at least for solo-play; there was just way too much going on at one time to keep track. This includes the final boss. That said, teaming up with friends is a blast.

AI Limit (PS5) A fun anime-souls game. Not too terribly hard for the most part, though some of the later bosses were on the difficult side. Combat is fairly straightforward, and you have to choose between block/parry/p.dodge, which is weird, but it works. Overall I enjoyed my time with this one.

The Curse of Kudan (Switch) A quaint VN. It's fairly short, with only three endings, so it doesn't overstay it's welcome. The story moves along briskly and has some pretty good twists and turns. The characters are all likeable, and the endings are satisfying. You can't ask for more from a VN.

Final Fantasy X (PS4) What a miserable game. Absolutely nothing about it clicks for me. I knew that going in as I played most of it back in the day on the PS2. I finished it this time out of spite because I'm not letting a game this bad beat me twice. Fuck this stupid game.

World End Syndrome (PS4) What a great visual novel. Individual runs don't take too long, and the hooks to push you to finish further routes are awesome. The humor is great, the core mystery is great, and the reveals are done at the perfect pace. If fact I liked it enough to get the platinum trophy.

High on Life (PS5) A whole lot of stupid fun in a FPS that doesn't overstay its welcome. Lots of secrets to discover, too (that will remain undiscovered as I'm not a trophy hunter). That said, while I enjoyed it, don't spend money on it - the creator is a terrible person; I got it "free" via PSN.

The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe (PS5) I saw about 80% of the endings, so I'm counting it. A fun game, and I can see how groundbreaking it would have been over a decade ago when it was new. Even today it remains a great game and well worth playing. The UD content was all pretty good as well.

Layers of Fear (PS5) Well that was a trip. I'd say it's mostly a horror puzzle game with a few run-away-from-monster segments (all very short). The paths to getting different endings are obvious enough to make it easy to get trophies if that's your thing. Overall I'd give this a recommendation.
