Would like to do a raffle sometime soon... maybe for 500 or 750 followers? As thanks to my steady early followers! Fancy icon? Sketch? Naughty close-up? Hmmm.. 🤔 What do you all think would be a fun treat?

I feel this too. Looking to make a move soon and really wishing that there were at least some options out there that I could feel halfway decent about.

Good to have a reminder every once in a while. It's easy to do, and the problem is likely to get worse. So make it a habit.

Stop using AI for your flyers & logos! They look like shit, everybody thinks so! Seriously, you’re losing business. Just make it yourself or hire a real artist.

So, I'd say creators would be better off if they got paid a direct and fair share of ad revenue - and if the ads weren't thinly veiled, pervasive behavioral profiling tools. Ad blockers are an absolute necessity for privacy and safety until then.

010

Cobalt @cobalt-tiger.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

That argument falls apart almost instantly once you look further than the surface of "it denies creators revenue." Ad companies pay a pitance to the individuals running them, and beyond the annoyance factor the bulk of the revenue comes from building behavior profile of whoever receives the ad.

110

Cobalt @cobalt-tiger.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

This is just a really weird take in general, too. Like, why are they siding with the multi-billion dollar industry who has stopped at nothing over the past multiple decades to entrench themselves deeper and deeper into our lives? Weird.

I use an ad blocker because ads steal the one precious resource i cant ever get back: my time. Theyre so invasive that you cant do anything on the internet without a few minutes of ads happening first. Why is it selfish to use an ad blocker and not ask why advertisers are so entitled to my time?

What an amazing world we might live in if that was even close the standard we held journalism to.

100

Cobalt @cobalt-tiger.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

I always have to wonder, at what point should journalism be required to make the judgment call: "this writer is overwhelmingly uninformed, let us *not* publish their opinion actually." I dearly wish they'd have exercised that judgment here.

More annoying still, because Sony has been doing the "hardware as a loss leader to attract customers" thing since the PS3 and no one bats an eye.

010

Cobalt @cobalt-tiger.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

Which, you know and I know, is not a thing. Steam OS doesn't restrict you to just playing Steam games, and that's basically public knowledge. But a lawyer could see that and have a field day with it. So valve just chose to sell it at-cost.

100

Cobalt @cobalt-tiger.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

The logic is unfortunately not all that high IQ. The most reasonable theory I've heard so far is that, because valve keeps getting slapped with monopoly lawsuits, if they sold a console at a loss it could read as "trying to funnel people onto their exclusive platform"

100

Cobalt @cobalt-tiger.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

Yep, A/Cs and heat pumps are identical mechanisms of action, the latter just has some fancy valves that let you run it in reverse when heat needs to come in. Interesting re: using propane as a working medium though, I think over here stateside we're still mostly dealing with R-134a and other HFCs.
