I was lucky enough to be at the online launch of this terrific book last night & was struck by how much context is everything. In the week that a GSRD woman was killed by the new stormtroopers of the American regime a book that might otherwise have been a celebratio looks like part of the fightback.

Yup, its cold outside, it snowed more overnight but as ever the dawn brings promises of better to come...

Here's what I wrote in 2031, which was among my reasons for leaving the Labour Party. Sometimes the only thing worse than being wrong is being right.

I spent some time yesterday messing with the idea of #kintsugi as a metaphor for the work #counsellors and #therapists do, and I may be quietly obsessed.

New #poetry at open.substack.com/pub/garethth... - a poem that I wrote recently then edited on the fly at an open mic hosted by the terrific Amy Langdown amylangdown.co.uk/ooyh/
The image is a nineteenth century print of a victim being tortured to the fourth degree by the Portuguese inquisition - they are suspended from a ceiling with weights being added to a roe around their waist, while a cleric records their answers.

There are double yellow lines to prevent parked cars from obstructing the street, but apparently wheely bins privatising the pavement as a waste store are welcome in the brave new world.

As a social construction #Splinters into shards of Squandered energy and Deconstructed dreams Do we mourn the time Invested in those hopes Or do close the door To that party, an Abandoned institution And invest the lessons Engraved on the splinters Like tally sticks bankrolling Our future? #vss365

Sometimes politics today reminds me of this chess set waiting to catch the unwary in the #LitandPhil in Newcastle - all the pieces are present, but not in the right places, so the usual set plays won't work.

For election day, I decided to have a wander round the beautiful Tyne Valley and to ignore the political noise. This building seemed like a beautiful metaphor for the day.

As well as poetry and writing, I do have a longing to be a photographer. It's something I experienced as a viewer for decades, despite growing up six miles from an art college with a truly great documentary photography course that I thought was not for the likes of me.

It's #TDOV2025 and here's the thought for the day - Trans people won;t go away even if Wes Streeting wishes they would - their need to be trans is real and fundamental to who they are - refusing to recognise that doesn't, in my eyes, change them.

In my writing I sometimes use AI software to produce images of places or people I want to describe. I was working on how I promote outdoor therapy after christmas, and my AI software gave me this image that suggests my software knows me too well, but doesn't have a good grasp of boundaries!
