It would be super easy to just have ai search for the most liked picture, copy paste the text into a prompt, and just like that our entire corner of the photography world is completely and irreversibly saturated

It’s a cool idea but as others have mentioned, it just makes it significantly easier for AI to mass generate content. I would basically be writing an AI prompt for it to make my picture..

Hi Bluesky! I’ve been in a little social media lull because of how gross meta platforms feel and how TikTok feels a bit like a sham now. I’m not entirely sure where to go with my stuff but I still like it here at least :) #aurora #alaska #northernlights

Hi bluesky! I’m sorry for the lack of posts! I’ve been trying to learn some new techniques for shooting auroras which include a completely new work flow for post processing :) it’s tedious and i haven’t quite got it down yet, but these are the results so far! #aurora #alaska #northernlights

that begs the question of whether the auroras causing power lines to chirp is actually auroras making noise - or whether auroras causing things to make noise is just a thing making a noise. Aurora sounds have also been attributed to strong inversions and a popping sound, but that’s even more rare!

It’s hard because there’s a lot of speculation about aurora sounds/what they sound like/how they occur, but realistically the auroras do not make noise unless it’s under some set of very specific circumstances! One of them I’ve experienced personally is power lines buzzing/chirping from the auroras

It’s just such a cool formation! Sometimes it’s hard to take pictures when the sky is so active like this but I really like this structure and I thought it was worth sharing :) #aurora #alaska #northernlights

It’s pretty wild how quickly these late night substorms can happen! this one popped out around 530am a couple nights ago :) #aurora #northernlights #alaska

real time auroras over Alaska! They can get pretty crazy to say the least :) #northernlights #aurora #alaska

this one is a time lapse :) I post real time as well though! they’re two different styles - time lapses aren’t just sped up videos in the aurora world! video sort of requires different types of cameras capable of high frame rates in lowlight

Imagine waking up one night and looking outside while something like this is going on.. we are lucky enough to be quite used to them now, but I cannot imagine what someone not knowing what they are would think if they saw this just by chance! #aurora #alaska #northernlights

totally! they’re just different :) different goals really! time lapses are more about catching the progression of the auroras whereas real time is more about chasing substorms! I like doing both for different reasons; substorms are fun but brief whereas time lapses are like a night-long goal!

haha it’s true! auroras are on other planets too :) they’re a great way of determining what gases are in the atmospheres of planets/moons!

they’re out every clear night here during aurora season! The only time we don’t have auroras is when it’s light for 24 hours

Andy Witteman - Cnlastro @cnlastro.aurora.photography · 10/01/2025

not under normal circumstances! there’s a lot of debate as to what aurora sounds actually are; there are some projects focusing on potential audio properties/emissions caused by inversions and pulsating/flickering auroras, and we personally have heard auroras make power lines chirp!

Andy Witteman - Cnlastro @cnlastro.aurora.photography · 10/01/2025

haha that’s a fun way to describe it 😂 they are entertaining! we have them every clear night so it’s very much the land of no sleep

Andy Witteman - Cnlastro @cnlastro.aurora.photography · 10/01/2025

we have them every clear night in Fairbanks from August to April! it’s a really great place to visit if you get the opportunity!

this is from 1770 - in Japan :) auroras actually used to be SIGNIFICANTLY more active than they are now (as you could imagine by Japan having Alaska-style auroras). Auroras are like rain, just the space kind caused by space weather 😁

I love full moon auroras :) when the moon is bright and the world is all lit up but the sky is dancing; that’s a good vibe!

Thank you! We’ve had a pretty good season so far! It seems like we are averaging like 4 or 5 auroras a week and at least one big one each week since August! Hopefully the second half of our season is just as good!
