For the love of dog, stop saying "Democrat" when it should be Democratic. It's the Democratic Party, not the Democrat party. Rush Limbaugh started this as a dig to imply we aren't democratic. And now everyone is doing it. Even Democrats. Democrat is a noun. The adjective is "Democratic." So stop it.

All of this⏬. I do think Mayor Johnson's uneven start was due to his not being part of the machine. Governing is a system, and systems need teams. Johnson's main team is the CTU and West side leaders, and they have historically not been go-tos for City Hall jobs (to put it mildly).

106 years ago today-Aug. 18, 1920-the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified, granting women the right to vote. While this was a major accomplishment, the Amendment did not remove voting barriers for women of color. That was not fully achieved until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Image: Public domain.

I get the intent, but this law was extremely wide reaching. The board of our 20-unit condo building had to each register to report BOI, because we were owners in charge of money. The penalties for not doing so were scary, and we had little info about what we were actually registering for.
