C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 25/09/2026My team at work today was asking if I was getting excited about Guards post-season. Uh. No. If you mean a month+ of heart attacks, sure yes very excited. I'll feel slightly better if we can win the division, but there is no feeling good when it comes to Cleveland sports. 010
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Having 2 weeks worth of water and shelf stable food on hand is always a good emergency plan. Plan for pets too. I'm not trying to live through an apocalypse, but being prepared for a natural disaster is never wrong! 121

C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I am witnessing a battle for the ages. McDonald's employees are attempting to close one drive thru lane for the night and the traffic does not care. They put a cone down. Someone drove over it. Then someone got out of their car and moved the cone. McDonald's employees are bringing more cones. 000

C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I'm not a historian or an expert. I don't claim to understand every nuance to war. I'm an average American old enough to remember before 9/11, before a Google search could tell you all you want to know. If you're like me, consider carving out a few hours during your time of remembrance to watch. 000
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 11/09/2026"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." When we ignore the decades long road to 9/11, we lay new bricks for it to happen again. The dead deserve better than that. Never forget, yes. But it's not enough. Remember through actions. Learn. Recognize patterns. Educate. Lead. 100
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I didn't know until several years ago because it's a point that was not taught when I was in school (Maybe that's changed? I graduated college in 2012.) I don't even think it was hinted at, because frankly, it's upsetting. We are not strangers to revisionist history, or even disregarded history. 100
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Maybe I'm naive or maybe I'm an optimist, but no, I don't believe this was an inside job. I do however believe that we dishonor the lives lost by ignoring the impact of our involvement in the Soviet-Afghan War and how it directly led to the rise of Al-Qaeda. I don't think most people realize this. 100
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Highly recommend watching the docuseries "Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror." There is a point that is well documented in this series: the choices the USA made in the wake of the Cold War laid the groundwork for the tragedy. I find 9/11 conspiracies disrespectful. That's not what this is. 100

Something horrible was happening. I watched, mouth agape as the second tower hit. We were silent. As that period reached an end, my name was announced on the loud speaker. 1/ 9234071259
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Maybe it wasn't. Being a tween in 2001 meant your childhood ended on 9/11, but you were the only one to realize it. Coddling could no longer preserve you. Half of you was shoved into war, the other half was told to go on as if nothing was wrong. And 25 years later? It hasn't changed. 010
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026"You're too young." No one wants to talk about it because they think it'll upset you. You're already upset though. You're already scared. You understand more than they think you do. They think there is something left in you to protect. They did their best. Maybe it was the right call. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026No one said, "Yeah maybe." And no one said, "That's not how it works." At 11, I was old enough to know something terrible had happened, even if I was still playing outside after school. You watch the 24/7 coverage and you know the world is about to change, even if no one is telling you directly. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Every day we came home and watched the news, and I hoped for survivors. I had this silly naive thought that if someone had just found an air pocket and a hot dog cart, they could survive indefinitely in the rubble. I had a half dozen other inventive but ultimately childish ideas for surviving. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026And then I watched the replays and continuing coverage. I made chicken ramen noodles. At some point, I told my parents I needed a break and I'm going to play outside. So I did. School was closed the next day. Then we went back and they pretended like everything was normal. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Mom just said they got out early and then we drove home. It wasn't until we got home that I was told anything. My mom hitchhiked out of downtown CLE. She couldn't get a bus and wasn't waiting, so she started to walk home. Would've taken her about 3-4 hours if someone hadn't offered her a ride. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I went to the aftercare program with my neighbor, since we didn't expect to get picked up by my brother until closer to 3. Both our moms were already there waiting for us. This was exceedingly weird because they both worked in downtown Cleveland and usually didn't get home until after 5. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Except my classmates were getting pulled out by their parents at an alarming rate. Every 10-15 minutes, someone was sent to the office to go home. No explanation. Why was no one getting me? It was a planned early dismissal day anyway so by the time 1pm came, there were only a handful of us left. 110
C.M. Kinzig @cmkinzig.bsky.social · 10/09/2026There was a single PA announcement from the parish priest for a moment of silence for the people of New York. No further commentary. This wasn't a regular occurrence but still common: school-wide moments of silence and prayer for XYZ reason happened on occasion. The day went on as normal. 110
