Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 09/04/2025Sure they all can pretty much. I see it like nature. It can appear as an infinite number of scenes and experiences. And we take pictures of the ones we want to remember. Its a bit like that. From the endless possibilities, curate a few that made you feel something. Maybe someone will vibe with it 000
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 09/04/2025Yeah that wouldn't need to change, as the artist you retain the rights to your works. The sale and token gives the new owner some rights too. So they can print it on a canvas or in some cases sell prints. Potentially also the rights to remix into new works 000
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 09/04/2025Its nice to be able to curate specific pieces. Give them a permanent home & ability to be owned like all other art. Because its on-chain the code lives in the permanent part of the blockchain. It can be used by collectors in exhibits and galleries+ provable legal rights. Its worth the effort 000

Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 07/04/2025Its a little harder with 16kb gen art. Most art coders out there would rather it be unbounded and with libraries. I get it. But with a tiny limit req, it forces you to the functional fundamentals of an algorithm/mechanism, to a deep understanding of it and to new juicy incites! Which I quite like. 100
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 07/04/2025Probably not, but I'd absolutely love to see you port some of your ideas over and to make something new. I'd be willing to help get you started and resolve any issues that come up. Like I mentioned we're a tiny team of enthusiastic art coders, so we very much welcome someone of your caliber! 110

Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025That's cool and strange! I like it. I like js for its ease of use and its ability to take syntax abuse. Similar to LUA you can really get in there and mess about. I agree its not good for everything. But good enough for most things 000
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025yeah similar, though I was never good at c / c++. I get it enough to make things with it but not enough to work on a pro coder team with an established codebase. I'd be lost! 😅 010
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Very cool and compact, these are great! Especially loving the feel of lsys4js. And it outputs SVG! I can see the print/plot benefits! Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025It sure is a challenge, no I keep all the variable names as full in the code. It forces you to make every mechanism as fundamental as possible, often choosing compactness over performance. I write it so that its maximizes effectiveness for the minifier, tried many of them, Terser is my preferred 100

Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Spend a few years dabbling with UE too, mostly for visual effects, but its blueprint nodes are slow, and too many times I've gone under the hood to the c++ side to add features and suffered mental pain with what felt like untraversable macros/templates and debugging hell 000
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Ah ok. I get you. Yeah that would work pretty well for my recursive node structures. I'd just have to process it breadth first, in parallel, then advance to the next depth level, so all of the ending positions for the previous level are available to the next depth. Code would change but not much 000
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025Though if I was doing an art installation where I know the hardware I'd probably use unity for that. It makes sense for that. Plus its very handy for shaders, parallel processing and a million other things that would be pretty handy 100
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 02/04/2025My art is html + js without libs and a size constraint of 16kb. So its limited by the browser DOM for parallel processing... or at least that's how I think it is. I do use Unity and c# too but not currently for art. I need it portable, tiny and maximum comparable. So html+js ticks that box 100
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 31/03/2025Hard to do but geometry shaders would be the way to go. Migrate the parallel stuff to the gpu and construct the strips there. Though one hard thing is that the branch end points arnt known until after a strip is built. So, it would hinder parallel computation unless its designed differently 000
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 31/03/2025I expected that it could be 10-20x faster with c++. But I'm no expert on that! Just grass is greener syndrome C++ multi threading + low level optimised operations. For the large structures in my js tests it took 100-150ms + to build 1000nodes with 1000-5000 verts per node 100
Charles Machin - Code Art @cmcodeart.bsky.social · 30/03/2025Aaah cool! its a fun kind of geometry to play with, theres so many structural choices and fun possibilities to explore, I only tried a few things. Recursive rules, that kind of thing. I wrote most of it up. Something like this would be great in c++. You could regen in realtime. Fuuuun! :) 000
