It's cool when magicians do it. Real life is not magical. "He who lives trusting, dies betrayed."

What are some movies that have traumatized you as a child? I'll go first: My Girl, 1991 I've seen some scenes from I.T. as well when I was like 8 and couldn't take a shower for a while. 😂

Even if you've earned $591.000 PER DAY (yes, per DAY), since the year 0 (yes, for the past 2024 years), Elon Musk would still have more wealth than you do.* Yeah... Let that sink in. * Assuming no interest or inflation.

Something like this will be found in the future, when these things will be completely unknown (or there is nothing that can "know" is left)...

This is the clearest image of Antares. It's 620 light years away from us. That's 39.2 MILLION times the distance between the Sun and the Earth. And I can't take a photo of my own face this sharp from my arm's reach. 🤦‍♂️

It's crazy that 1/3rd of Americans think that college is not worth it. It shouldn't be the first metric to jump come to mind, but median salary for high school graduates is $36,000, while the same number is $60,000 for college grads. And think about how much vision does college add to people!

What does a human cell weigh? In October 2017, researchers in Switzerland unveiled this cantilever scale designed to detect minute fluctuations in a living cell’s mass. It's an incredible image! Second image (not from the same study) shows the cell count vs. cell biomass o fvarious tissues.

When helicopters operate in deserts, sand particles flying in the air cause friction with their blades, generating sparks due to micro-erosion. Despite being made of hard metals like titanium or nickel, the blades experience this friction and heat up!

This is a close-up view of an insect's leg! More specifically, this is the tarsus (the lowermost segment of an insect leg) of a male diving beetle. It is roughly 2 millimetres in diameter. The beetle uses it to attach to a female’s back during mating. 📸: Igor Siwanowicz

That's not an elephant's tusk. That's a mammoth's tusk! This one was found in Yakutia, Siberia back in 2016. Ancient ivory from mammoths has become so valuable that some prospectors now illegally 'mine' them from permafrost. A large tusk can be worth 10s of thousands of dollars. 📸: Amos Chapple

This is kinda sad because saving the corals has come to this... More than 400 coral "trees" grow in this nursery off the coast of Tavernier, Florida. The set-up aims to nurture wild corals that are increasingly endangered by threats such as warming waters and ocean acidification. 📸: Spencer Lowell
