Your first time? That and I Lucifer were the first two I read, bought with the front cover ripped off (which I later learned meant disposed of as not for sale…) for 50p each from a rack in the local petrol station in Cornwall. I was about 12, and a lifelong enthusiasm and habit began… Enjoy!

The thing (actually one of many things) I don’t understand is what the Range Rover GT means for Jaguar. Before it was announced, I just assumed that Jaguar would make cars and Range Rover would make luxury and highly capable SUVs. But the GT feels like it’s right on the borders of Jaguar territory.

I think cellphone, too… Cellnet was Vodafone’s competitor before Orange came along so the idea of “mobile” being “cellular” was out in the wild. And the people who had them at the beginning would have embraced the Americanism along with their Brooks Bros button down shirts and Timberland deck shoes

Another vote for Chambers here: less philology and history, more words, better definitions and v handy for Scrabble and crosswords…

It freaked me out so much as a kid my Mum had to literally burn it in front of me to make sure I knew it had gone… the only time that happened, I hasten to add…

Did your Puffin Books reading encompass Alan Garner already. Weirdstone of Brisingamen, Moon of Gomrath and Elidor are classics with a very distinctive voice. And The Owl Service is terrifying…

Not quite your timeframe, but Connie Willis’ Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog are time travel fantasy from the mid-80s, and very enjoyable. If you liked RS’s Sword at Sunset, then Mary Stewart’s Merlin series is a fabulous set of tales. Four books, starting with The Crystal Cave

But where do you stand on what colour to paint the cut surfaces on a model? My instincts say red, but that might just be prolonged exposure to Science Museum, Engineering Faculty and RAF sectioned hardware… and the odd Airfix engine…

Why is it so flamin’ hard to find shows you add to watchlists in ANY streaming app? I know the algorithm wants to push other stuff at me, but it’s a fundamentally broken pattern if you can’t go quickly to something you’ve “favorited” or bookmarked for later!

It felt like hard work to me… Not sure why it was billed as “Comedy horror” … the humorous bits were few and far between, IMHO, and just not actually very funny. Buffy or Stranger Things it wasn’t… I got to the end, but I won’t be queueing up waiting for Season 2!

Just be wary… Hiroboy paints are great, but they are real automotive paints and part of a system with clear coat. You need to apply in light coats over primer or else the hot solvent will etch what’s underneath. They dry matt, and if they ever look wet it’s laid on top heavy. Mask and gloves, too.

It might not be shown on the night, but I have noticed quite a few of the more “interesting” Proms do appear on iPlayer over the following few months and some do get broadcast. The Northern Soul and Nina Simone ones did, for sure
