Don't remind me. 😔 I can't stand that people here keep voting for him. He should have been booted at least 10 years ago!

Don't ask me, I've voted against Chuck Grassley every election since 2016, lmao. At this point I've given up any hope of someone else getting elected. Still voting against him, of course, but lots of people here are clearly stupid, I guess.

#bg3 #baldursgate3 #baldursgate This book is extremely problematic and a travesty, and the author's behavior is gross. I'm tired of awful authors being excused for their idiocy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=54Rc...

Also, of course Amazon protected your shitty book from being rated badly. That's okay. I'll give it one star sometime in the future when it's not being locked down anymore.

Next time, try actually playing the game with all of Astarion's content, understanding the character, before writing a book you clearly didn't take enough time on, as you admit.

Please someone tell me why the hell @tkingfisher.com is on this platform? She's a bully and terrible writer that treats SA victims like crap. Literally writing a freaking SA character who is supposed to be REPULSED by sex as someone who manipulates people with sex? Fuck you!

Some people on the internet are literal idiots. No, calling people homophobic when they are being homophobic is not "malicious". Yes, publicly punching down at small local LGBTQ+ book events is homophobic. Common sense is a virtue, people!
No dog in this fight, but if people are accusing a festival of homophobia for scheduling at the same time as another festival, that is malicious and should be treated as such.

Wait, who accused who of being homophobic due to scheduling? Did I miss something?

@jackiep2042 RARE accused Crave of scheduling their LGBTQ+ event on the same date as RARE's. But RARE never actually announced their date (nor acquired a venue), they just said "sometime in first half of April" basically. People pointed this out, and RARE responded that Crave was obligated to check in with them so that their event didn't conflict. Very entitled and gross.

@ChristianSeibold32 Yeah, that was my understanding. I’m just confused because OP said someone was accused of homophobia because they scheduled their event at the same time as another, and I don’t remember that being a part of where the homophobia accusations came from.

@jackiep2042 Ah, right. Yeah. I was confused by the comment too, but I thought they were trying to say someone online accused RARE of homophobia for scheduling RARE at the same date as Crave.

And before people exclaim "but rights existed before liberalism!" - well, yeah. Liberalism took in that idea and centered it by drawing from Natural Law, the distinction of religious and political authority, religious conflicts, rationalism, social-contract theory, etc.

And like, I'm gay, so of course I'm going to defend liberalism for playing such an important role in women, racial minorities, and LGBTQ+ people fighting for freedoms that had been denied to us for a very long time. Because I don't take my rights for granted.

If we take all of this into account, one could easily say that capitalism actually coerces people into things. That it takes freedoms away from people, both positive and negative. I'm still arguing in a liberal mindset, just anti-capitalist. That is how different strands of one thing are developed.

Protestantism and LDS are still called forms of Christianity despite its many differences in dogma and practice. Christianity is still the core of Protestantism and LDS. People who descend from liberalism view liberty (as opposed to authoritarianism) as the core of liberalism.

Just to stab the dagger farther into your argument, this is how all of philosophy and religion works. Whether you call yourself a different stream of an earlier thing or not doesn't matter. What matters is what you took from that thing and how you have changed or used it for different ideas.

Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
All of this is important! Early liberals had to justify private property in relation to their ideas of individual rights. Individual rights is the basis through which liberalism's policies and institutions are justified. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous and ahistorical.
100
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
If you look at early liberal arguments about the legitimacy of private property, you'll see that they based it on individual rights. Some admit that the earth is held in common to begin with. Some say private property is not an natural entitlement, but a useful social convention (Hume)

Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Early classical liberals did in fact debate about the limitations and legitimacy of private property (which predates capitalism). But private property was an already-established social institution at the time, thus they *focused on how it could be justified and limited.*

Your argument can be side-stepped by saying that we can take things from liberalism without taking everything from it. Whether you want to call that social liberalism, cultural liberalism, anti-capitalist liberalism, or some other name that doesn't have "liberal" in it doesn't actually matter.
111
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Not what I said. But this is rich coming from a self-proclaimed anarchist. What I said was that over time liberals have demonstrated that they view rights as disconnected from the economics so much that socialist, communist, and anti-capitalist liberals exist. Disputing that is ahistorical
100
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
And this is in fact what happened. Over time liberals conceived of different economic systems that they believed better fit the ideals of individual rights. Trying to dispute this means you are actively ignoring history and trying to appeal to the "original conception". Again, it's disingenuous.

Throwing the baby out with the bathwater is stupid. Ignoring that liberalism was a response to previous ideologies is equally stupid. And that, in fact, IS taking liberalism out of its historical context.
100
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Again, not what I said. What I said was that individual rights are necessary for the economic approach. It doesn't matter that both ideas were formed at the same time. You're being disingenuous. Liberalism's ideas of individual rights are a GOOD thing that can lead to different economic systems.

Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You're taking one historical form of an ideology and treating its economic implementation as the ideology itself, without recognizing what ideas underlie it and *how those core ideas can support other systems.*
200
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
What you're doing is like saying that because the Soviet Union used communism to consolidate political and economic power and deny people rights, therefore denying rights and consolidating wealth in the government must be the basis of communism.
110
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
This shows that for many liberals, rights are more foundational to liberalism. Thus, these liberals try to build or modify an economic system that adheres to that foundation. So I would argue that liberalism actually warrants rejecting capitalism.
100
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
In fact, this foundation of rights was used to modify the economic system to account for how the systems affected individual freedom. Thus some liberals (J.S. Mill) turned to socialism because they found it adhered to that foundation better.
100
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Liberalism isn't synonymous with liberal economics, or with capitalism. Its individual rights is more fundamental than any particular economic system. These rights can provide the foundation for liberal democracy without requiring capitalism as an economic system.

Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
These very tools become the basis for justifying democracy, but that doesn't mean we cannot have democracy without liberal economics.

Liberalism is more than an economic system. Removing it from historical context and reducing it to an economic system overlooks that it was historically primarily about individual freedom and political rights. Its economics grew out of its emphasis on liberty in opposition to aristocratic privilege.
211
Christian Lee Seibold @clseibold.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Those ideas of universal liberty and rights became tools that led to social justice movements challenging the exclusion and oppression of people within liberal societies. Woman suffrage, civil rights, gay rights, trans rights, etc. movements used the language of rights alongside other traditions.

Roman Christianity didn’t need to get patriarchy from Judaism. Pre-Christian Rome was extremely patriarchal. And yes, some of the cultures on the periphery of the empire had different gender norms… but there were many such cultures. And much migration. And North is a different direction from West.

#bb28 This season was ok. Preferred the two previous seasons more. The icons had a lot of privileges in this game, including being handed first HoH. It is no coincidence that the group that had the most privileges, got the most votes for powers, also had one player that got the most votes for AFP.

Here in Iowa we have a sort of independent-minded Dem running for Governor, Rob Sand. I talked with him. He seems really nice, and he promised to veto every "culture war" bill that tries to target LGBTQ+ folks. He's certainly much much better than what Iowa has had for the last decade at least.
