A comic about Joe and Rico bickering about nothing. #draws #comics #MidnightCowboy

Joe is standing in front of the bathroom door in Rico's X-flat. The door has a poster of oranges and the word 'Florida' printed in pairs. He slaps the door by his shoulder and proclaims to an audience of Rico, "Here's Ratso!" and again by his head with a good deal of pride, "Aand here's me!" He is a great deal taller than Rico is what he is saying.

Unimpressed, Rico gives back, "So what?" Rico sits on a bed across from Joe with a cigarette nested between his fingers.

Unphased, Joe's arms are now proudly crossed across his chest, "What's what is that've been the tallest in my class since the fifth grade!"

"Ok, and so?"

"So?" Joe doubles down, "So the world looks mighty fine from up here!"

Rico shoves his cigarette in his mouth and goes to stand, "You know what? Let me try something."

Rico grabs a nearby chair and drags it right in front of Joe, close to the wall. He starts to climb the chair. Joe just stares, watching this all happen.

With great effort, Rico stands before Joe on the chair and stares down at him. Joe is a bit dumbstruck by Rico's effort and stares up at him, unaccustomed to seeing him at such an eye level.

"Yeahh," Rico smiles, "I think I see what you mean." It's amusing to look down on Joe this once. Joe mutters under his breath, "Now that's cheatin'."

Rico, reaching the limits of his stamina, begins to wobble. Joe notices this right away.

Rico falls forward and onto Joe who holds him up with ease, one hand around the barrel of his chest and the other grabbing his shoulder. Rico's hands sink into Joe's arms in a panic. "Woah, careful, easy now." Joe smiles, "Wouldn't want to crack your head open."

Rico looks up at Joe's kind face and feels uneasy.

He recoils away from Joe, "Yeah, okay. You can get your mitts offa me. I can get down fine by myself."

Joe is understanding, "Sure, Ratso..."

Later, Rico is seated comfortably on an armchair with a cigarette between his fingers. Joe leans over him from behind with another cigarette pinched between his fingers, "You know you was cheatin' right?" Rico looks annoyed.

I have acrylic standees that I look at everyday and wondered what one of them together would look like if there was one so I drew them all cute and simple like this. It's hard to do though. Every line really matters. Gen is my favorite part here. #ajin #draws

Ajin Week 25 - Day 7: Night Baby Satou dressed as a cowboy trick or treating on Halloween night in the 1950s with some kids from the neighborhood. #ajinweek25 #ajin #draws

The scene is set in the 1950s on Halloween night and takes place in a neighborhood street.
Sam, dressed as a cowboy, is crouched over in the street and poking at a dead bird with a stick while his pillowcase of candy is discarded beside him. Behind him, another child, dressed as a yellow clown, is on the sidewalk holding the hand of a much younger child that's dressed like a black cat. The older child yells at Sam: Ewww Sam, leave that dead bird alone!

Ajin Week 25 - Day 5: Favorite Scene This is a scene I've always loved involving Tanaka in the manga. It marks a turning point in his character. #ajinweek25 #ajin #draws

A redraw of a scene from Volume 4, Chapter 19 of Ajin in which Tanaka, with his hands in his pockets, turns to 3 teenage girls and says: That's not something you should do for fun. He is telling these girls not to check out a building downtown for fun since he knows Satou plans to blow it up. Not knowing Tanaka, the girls are visibly creeped out by him.

The context is that Tanaka was walking past these girls and overheard them. Aware of Satou's plan, he can't help but turn around and impulsively tell the girls not to go. Creeped out by their encounter with this weird guy they decide to go home.

Ajin Week 25 - Day 4: Watermelon Another Tanaka comic warm from the oven #ajinweek25 #ajin #draws #comics

A small silent comic with Tanaka from Ajin that takes place during the canon events of the manga.

From behind and at distance, we see Tanaka in a cap and mask in a grocery store staring down at a stall of watermelon on sale for 1500 yen. One hand is stuffed in his jacket while the other is holding a shopping cart.

In a closeup, we see that each watermelon is carefully cradled in foam wrapping to protect them from damage. Their stems are still attached and they have a beautiful and attractive green color.

It's nostalgic. Pictured is a memory of Tanaka as a child happily eating a slice of watermelon with a stack of comics waiting to be read as a fan keeps him cool in the summer heat.

Back to the present, we see Tanaka reacting to the memory. It's a happy memory but would he ever be able to feel like that again? Maybe having some watermelon might bring back a taste of the feeling.

Title: Breakfast

Setup: This 4 page comic takes place during the series and before the Forge arc but after Satou forms the rest of his group. Okuyama is in a tracksuit while Tanaka has his black leather jacket and slicked back hair.

Page 1
Okuyama yawns as he walks through an empty hallway. He nearly passes the doorway to the breakroom when Tanaka spots him.
Tanaka: Okuyama!
He beckons Okuyama to come over with a gesture.
Tanaka: Come sit with me.

Okuyama takes a seat at the fold-out table across from Tanaka. He notices that Tanaka's breakfast consists of leftover fried chicken and alcohol.

Page 2
Tanaka bites into a fried drumstick, tearing off a piece with his teeth and leaving crumbs everywhere. Drunk, he has to concentrate a little as he chews for a moment.
While eating still, he asks Okuyama if he's hungry and pushes the box of leftover chicken in Okuyama's direction.
Okuyama declines, slightly grossed out. Tanaka continues to eat offscreen.

Page 3
Tanaka: You know, I don't understand Gen and Takahashi!
Okuyama watches as Tanaka leans forward with the drumstick in his hand.

Tanaka: The legs are the best part!"
Tanaka waves the half-eaten drumstick at Okuyama who stares at it silently.

Okuyama tilts his head with an expression of curiosity.
Okuyama: Hey
Okuyama: Can I ask a question?"

Tanaka talks into a glass of alcohol.
Tanaka: Yeah, go ahead.

Okuyama points at Tanaka.
Okuyama: Aren't you hot in that thing?

Tanaka looks down and places a hand on his jacket where Okuyama is pointing.
Okuyama: It's the middle of summer and you usually have it zipped up. It was 35 celsius yesterday.

Tanaka non-chalantly confirms this.
Tanaka: Oh, yeah.

Tanaka digs his fingers into the collar of his leather jacket and speaks with emphasis.
Tanaka: I'm hot as balls.
Tanaka: The lining of this thing reeks.

Tanaka: Every morning I have to spray it with vinegar.
In the background, a small doodle of a sleepy Tanaka is holding out his leather jacket away from him with one hand whilte spraying the lining with the other, his hair is still not yet made.

Okuyama politely replies: Huh!
However, Okuyama makes an internal assessment: He's like a lonely housewife. This poor guy. Does he have any idea he's being strung along by Mr. Satou? He tries so hard to look tough too.

Meanwhile, Tanaka becomes aware of the awkward silence between them and gets concerned.
Tanaka: Hellooo! Earth to Okuyama!

Okuyama is lost in his own thought process as he realizes something: And yet...

Continues straight from the last comic of my post-canon Ajin series where Tanaka put a very drunk Okuyama to bed. Tanaka is walking home late at night. He thinks about his past, present and what might be. #draws #comics 14 pages 1/4 #Ajin #okutana

The comic is titled: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Tanaka is taking a long walk home late at night alone. This is following an evening spent with Okuyama.
He looks down at his phone and notices it is 4am. He needs to go to work pretty soon. He wonders if he should bother to continue walking home since it's nearly morning.
He makes a sound in annoyance, realizing this.

Making his decision, Tanaka turns around and walks to work instead. It's not like he'd be able to get any sleep anyway.
Morning, he ruminates. He used to like mornings.
Tanaka remembers mornings from when he was a normal kid way back when. He would sleepily walk downstairs after waking up in his home.

It was his chore to mix the rice bran for nukazuke, a pickled vegetable dish. Every morning young Tanaka would walk to the kitchen, take out the container of nukazuke from the fridge and mix the rice bran.
Since it was so early, he'd be too tired to think about anything.

He could just be. While doing this chore, he zones out while staring out the kitchen window, revealing a pastoral view of the Japanese countryside with rolling green hills, lush foliage and homes sparsely placed throughout.
Tanaka spots a bird sitting on the branch outside his window.
