16) I'd say my fave type of dialogue is where there's subtext beneath the words they're saying on the surface. one bit of dialogue i enjoyed from dreams dissipate in dreams bc I wrote it out of spite, and the other in violent delights have violent ends I liked bc of the prose that brackets it!

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I was being selfish.” He says, in a soft, defeated voice, bowing his head. “At first, I was afraid to ask. Later, I was terrified that you wouldn’t forgive me. I’ve done you wrong, Huan-ge. I don’t deserve your forgiveness.”

“You’re right.” Lan Huan says, and Jiang Cheng feels the hope that had gained purchase within him die a swift death, his heart sinking down to his stomach.

“I won’t forgive you. Not until you pay for penance with every inch of your body. Not until I have laid claim to you in every single way. Not until you are swollen with my child. Not until you belong to me, mind, body and soul.”

Jiang Cheng’s heart jumps back up, into his throat.

“I won’t forgive you for denying me the pleasure of taking you apart. For not trusting me with your heart. But I’ll give you a chance to make amends.”

“Niang-zi. Will you let me love you?” His words are sweet, but no matter that Jiang Cheng is lost to the unnatural heat that clouds his mind, he can still hear the implicit demand in his husband’s words. And because he has promised, he can only comply.

“Yes,” he obliges, tilting his head up for a kiss, offering himself up in supplication, submitting to Wen Xichen’s will. “Fuck a baby into me.” And let me destroy your brother the way he tried to destroy me and mine.

“Yes. Yes.” Wen Xichen says with equal fervour, as if answering both his spoken and unspoken pleas
