As turbulent times raged at the end of the Sixties and into the Seventies, folk musicians turned to the aesthetics and sounds of a pastoral past to make sense of a quickly evolving modern present. Here are 20 great pastoral folk songs from an era of changing times.

20 Great 60s and 70s Pastoral Folk Songs You Should Hear Right Now

As times changed in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, folk music took listeners back to the garden, maybe in an effort to focus on what is common in human experience as the world was moving on. He…

A phrase I read on Reddit from the POV of a busker who was harassed by a famous singer who drunkenly demanded to hear the busker play one of his songs: "my dude was turnt as a MF".

A singular hit single by 1985, Swiss duo Double presented a song that leads with atmosphere and simplicity. But what kind of song is it? What genre does it most closely resemble? Is it happy, sad, or a combination of both somehow?

I guess "standard time" is something very specific and this new approach has to be called something else. Pacific Canada Time could work OK. I guess it would be mismatched with Atlantic Standard Time, which makes me fidget a bit.

Songs about parenthood are many. But few capture the unique strangeness of how being a parent can affect how we experience the passage of time like Zach Gill's song "Watch Them Grow" does. How does Gill balance utter joy and quiet melancholy so well in this tune about identity and transformation?

I'm digging a new (to me) band - RIKAS. Kind of a retro-guitar pop band with an emphasis on danceworthy grooves from Stuttgart that seems to draw a lot of influence from late-1970s radio singles. Here's their YouTube channel should you wish to explore further (you should).
