My family and I made our home here because it’s music city. The music scene is incredibly vibrant, unique among the cities where I’ve lived. If there’s no resolution to this, the scene here will likely never be the same.

My friends who work in the game industry, many of these musicians are session players also, and they’ve been involved in the creation of many of the biggest game soundtracks of the last decade. This crisis has enormous potential to trickle down into the recording scene here.

There was a new CEO who had just started as leader of the organization. He has now been…fired? Asked to resign? Stepped down? The board has installed one of their members as acting CEO. The whole thing stinks.

To put this in context, the symphony had just hired a number of new members, several of whom moved here over the summer. They had just started to collect a paycheck, and now their lives are completely upended.

This orchestra started their 2026-27 season, and then a few weeks in, they were told “sorry, we have to shut down in three weeks.” As it stands now, it looks like all seventy-seven members are going to be furloughed without pay or benefits.

I first played with the Nashville Symphony in 2015, making mine an eleven year association with the group. During that time, I’ve had two 1-year full-time contracts, and some years I have played with them almost every week, even without a contract. I do not have a contract with them at present.
