There was also plenty of science to share, with CLIME researchers presenting their current projects and colleagues from the University of São Carlos sharing their work, including GEODONE. We also had the opportunity to discuss potential areas for future collaboration.

The visit included tours of the Biomedical Research Institute and CLIME facilities, government clinics where CLIME runs mini-labs and recruits study participants, and the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS), where our Brazilian colleagues got to see routine, large-scale TB testing in action.

A huge highlight was the guest talk from Dr. Polk, Chief Health and Medical Officer for NASA. His talk on the effects of microgravity on the human body sparked conversation for days afterwards, and the verdict is in: CLIME members have decided we'd rather live under the sea than in space! 🌊🚀

Part 2 of our Infectiousness and Transmission series🧪 The LCASS captures airborne TB bacteria in a liquid, allowing us to perform a range of laboratory tests. Together with the ACI, which separates particles by size, these tools help us better understand how TB spreads through the air.
