👋 @ecb.europa.eu If you ressurect conditionality politics when stabilising French debt, could you ask for the suppression of tax loopholes for firms and rich households rather than health and education cuts? Maybe technocratic pressures will do better than French conservative politics. Best,

Why are we still allowing UAE-based finance to operate as if it was legit business when it is the heartland of forgery and shadow Fx payments allowing Russian forces to keep murdering Ukranians?

AI and austerity in higher ed. Our inability to end our fossil fuel addiction strains our public budgets. This is used as an excuse for austerity cuts targeting schools and university. As scholarship fees rise and our budgets shrink, we are advised to forget abt books in class and use AI instead.

👋 @ec.europa.eu. I know you do not really care anymore about the post-fascist identity of the governments you deal with, nor about your environmental objectives, but are we fine than Meloni uses (green & digital) Next-Gen funds to fund a suspension of road taxes during an election year?

The mainstreaming of fascist tropes in France reached the point where a RN MP finds it ok to defend Bardella by saying: Who remembers what they said to their friends at 17, when you might crack a joke to amuse the crowd? Who never drew a swastika with their compass in high school or at university?"

Some years ago, the main tool to face speculative attack/downwards valuation on sovereign debt was a powerful central bank. Today, it's solar panels and electrification, you know, the road EU conservatives have blocked because greening is "woke" www.ft.com/content/f894...

In 1986, a nuclear power plant in Chernobyl went rogue. Doesn't make sense? Yes, you're right, and AI tech barron's narratives don't either. Rather, let's start talking about weak regulation and poor internal security systems (as we did with nuclear power plants)

HUGE UPDATE: we halted Amazon's panel at Climate Week. We shut it down so hard that every guest and every speaker had to leave the premises. No one was able to return. Their whole event lasted less time than their warehouse workers' pee break.

Interesting FT chart: Central banks have leaned hard on 'wage growth leads to inflation' in communication & as policy channel. But data since the 1980s tells a messier story: quarters with hotter wage growth are followed by lower core PCE inflation a year later, not higher www.ft.com/content/a525...
Scatter plot titled 'Warsh was right,' showing ECI wage growth (x-axis, 1% to 9%) plotted against the change in core PCE inflation over the following year (y-axis, -2 to 4 percentage points). Quarterly data since 1981. Points show a negative trend: a downward-sloping line indicates that higher wage growth quarters tend to be followed by lower future inflation change, not higher. Data is scattered widely around the trend line. Source: Haver Analytics, via Financial Times.
