The thing I enjoy about C is that I consistently have some knowledge from earlier exposure I think is some feature added in C11 or C23 cause its a nice feature you think would become evident after decades of use and then BOOM! Its referenced in "The C Programming Language - Second Edition"

I feel this isnt just webdev. I have the same problem with technical products and services that try to techbobable but dont actually explain anything.

What do you use instead of jsx when writing react?
100
claybridge.bsky.social @claybridge.bsky.social · 18/10/2025
JSX is the new HTML, react is the new JavaScript.

I recently did a js13k near pure ui game in pure html css and js. It helped me understand why the industry went to jquery and then to the component based reactivity frameworks. As a mental exercise pure js html css is more expensive than reactive components are. Jsx reduces mental load.

Damn this train of posts was interesting. Thanj you for wroting all this. As someone learning C you mention a lack of resources to write good C, any recommendations? I have Modern C Third Edition but its not good educational material, anything that gives good scaffolding for learning.

Oh for sure, i wish scala was still a thing likewise. But i havnt seen clojure mentioned as a serious tech consoderation for years. I hope the people who do it and enjoy it can keep gping though.

Private for the company not private for the individual

He said consistently private way to use the technology, as in a way to make it proprietary so no one can just copy or look under the hood at it. Like their whole closed garden approach.

Afaik my software industry history being cheap and fast has always been big. Its why windows won the OS wars. We have Java and C++ because they were promises of faster ttm and easier. Java particularly ran on "write once run anywhere" slogan.

Im not sure what you mean, but young devs deff didnt make electron. Neither do young devs decide to use electron to make their desktop apps. Microsoft Teams? Who chose that? And whose teaching young devs? Again it comes down to TTM, and the perception that using a single techstack is faster.

It followed the money.

Additionally quality is not a consideration for companies where as speed of sale, time to market and minimal development costs are.
100
claybridge.bsky.social @claybridge.bsky.social · 14/10/2025
True, but its easier and quicker to make an electron app than learn a compiled language and reimplement from scratch all the thing the browser allows you to script. Companies can have access to web developers. Few companies want to find people to work in the niche text editor developer market.

claybridge.bsky.social @claybridge.bsky.social · 13/10/2025
Because it is easier/quicker than the alternative. Mosaic was trying to be quick in the browser wars and saw embeded java applets were the worse alternative: javascript. You got electron because so many apps were web first and then its quicker to wrap it in electron than build from scratch.

Point is the intent. If a blue collar worker can replace they they will. No job is safe against the hype. And if the hype isn't enough then it's just a matter of time.

Thats a fundamental misunderstanding of the technology. It's suppose to reduce your opex by removing people actually doing work not C Suites. Or at least smokescreen that cutting on workforce is due to AI while insourcing migrant workers in their place at fractions of the cost.

Have you ever done the thing where you make a class or object and let every function return this; so you can chain a whole bunch of functions like it's nothing?

Brendan Eich designed javascript over 10 days in order to allow it to be demoed at some Netscape oresentation. The idea was to make a simplified language that non programmers could use to make their site dynamic. Temporary solutions often end up being the most permanent.

There is also something to be said about ux design being a profession and an education. Ux designers writing ux books used in ux courses that prospective ux designers now take as gospel and remake because they can then point to the literature and established guys when the c suite asks questions.

I would disagree, familiarity grows very quickly, a couple of days of use and it's there. Then each website copys the more familiar website because they want the familiar aesthetic and it goes on. You now have a chain of designers following the designs of more popular services until uniformity

You should make multiple versions of the AI compete in a tournent style til you have the one reigning champion AI. If watch that.

All websites look the same for the same reasons all chain stores have the same aisle layouts. Familiarity and a playbook of small little hacks to make people more likely to purchase.

Javascript is weird in that it doesnt need a ; but a ; has a function that breaks up code. Code without semicolons functions perfectly fine until you have an edge case where definitions can melt together if you don't include them.

Hey, thanks for answering and so quickly. This part I understand, how are you handling the array resize? Are you just calling the resize method?
