I’ve decided that life is too short to spend time looking for Green-winged Teal in the UK.

Patch gold on Drummau this morning. 3 Golden Plovers. Must have been at least 20 Mistle Thrush, 10 Ravens, double figures of Jays, Kite, Green Woodpecker etc. as well. 👍 Then had a bull run straight at me and the boy which I’m not going to lie, wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences😱😱

First visit to St Aidan’s RSPB with my oldest yesterday. Only planned on a quick visit but ended up spending a couple of hours. Lovely reserve. Whilst watching the Cattle Egrets a Shortie flew amongst them. And had incredible views of a dozen or so Bearded Tits. #YorkshireBirding

Just back from fishing with the boys. A small pond just outside Ammanford. Good views of a Kingfisher. Bullfinch calling. And i think I heard a Willow Tit. Merlin called it as well. Not outside the realms of possibility I wouldn’t have thought?

Time for some birding excuses. Dipped the Wryneck at Portland today but finally hit the 200 mark for the year with the Grey Phalaropes at Lisvane. Work has been hectic and have had heaps of stuff on with non birding mates and family. And the boys have taken up fishing. I will think of more🤣🤣

Nice walk up Drummau this afternoon. Quiet birdwise. A few ChiffChaffs, Raven, Buzzards, Linnets and a hanging on Common Whitethroat. Time for a curry in Cardiff👍😋

Change of plan today. Due to go to the Boroughs for some music/beer but mate called off sick. Took the opportunity to head up to Merthyr. Lovely, if brief view of Ortolan Bunting. Good to bump into Shaun and Andrew. A good group of birders all round. 👍👍

Hadn’t realised there was such a good path alongside the Loughor Estuary. Good to bump into Gary. Nice to year tick several Curlew Sandpipers and Yellow Wagtail. Kingfisher also sat on the shoreline. #BirdingWales

The boy has been amazing on this trip to Scotland (sadly our last day today). My youngest took this of him by Loch Cluanie on the drive up. Bird wise the Kintyre Peninsula has been relatively quiet. Nice to have Nuthatch though. And BTD’s are amongst my favourites 👍👍👍

Genuinely hope everyone is safe in Nethy. Including pets and other animals. Fingers crossed the wildlife hasn’t suffered too much either. For obvious safety reasons our holiday cottage was cancelled. Have relocated to the Kintyre peninsula.

Had an afternoon fishing (and blanking) on Benbecula this afternoon with my boys. Really pleasantly surprised to have 2 Bonxies fly over us and pleased to see a Black-throated Diver as well. The great thing about fishing up here is that anything can turn up. 👍

Absolutely superb prawn roll from The Wee Cottage Kitchen. Then over to Berneray for a walk on the beach with Bud. Coming back on the road from Berneray to North Uist we were treated to a glorious view of a Golden Eagle. Flew right across the road carrying a rabbit or hare by the looks of it.

Back in our happy place. Corncrake calling from garden. Shortie over the dunes. Twite, Linnets, Snipe etc from our walk which was only meant to be down past the church. 3 hours later and we’re back🤣 OH knows she’s married to a birder and short walk can mean anything from 30 mins to all day. 🤣

Really enjoyable long day birding, primarily on the dry side of the bridge today. Absolute highlight were the Hobby’s, but well supported by heard only Great Reed Warbler, Cranes, LRP, Bitterns booming, Green Woodpeckers and Cat Ych y Fi Mandarin. Ended and a good (for me) total of 93 species.

Brilliant days birding with 2 of my 3 boys today. All around Dorset. Ended on 77 species with highlights being Corn Bunting, Yellowhammer, Firecrest and Dartford Warblers. Potentially could have got to 80 if numb no nuts would have crossed the bridge at Radipole. 😂😂

Took advantage of my family’s abysmal Geography knowledge and “nipped” down to Goonhilly Downs from the holiday cottage in Chard😂 Stunning views of the Lesser Kestrel. Celebrated with a Cornish Pastie with Bud at Kennack Sands where there were also 5 GND’s. #CornwallBirding
