Line graph of Svalbard sea ice extent from OSI SAF for daily data. 2025 is currently a record low for this time of year. There is a large seasonal cycle.

Global sea surface temperatures are nearing the 21°C threshold again this year, reaching 20.986°C on February 9. The 21°C threshold was broken for the first time on March 16, 2023. Before 2023, the previous record high was 20.991°C on March 6, 2016. How high will SST's go this year? Stay tuned!
