i'm just so tired of the people around here calling themselves "groomers" because they washed and dried a labrador one time and it didn't go terribly. like, when you can successfully manage a poodle - that should be the basic litmus test.

having to drive for over an hour, sit around for at least two hours, then drive over an hour back, is hard on the dog and just makes for such a long and unproductive day - which is why i have tried so hard to find someone more local. i *wish* i could do it myself, but i just can't.

my petty side wants to take a picture of him, send it to her, with a message like "my professional disagrees with you - no shaving required!" honestly, i suspect she just didn't want to put in the work. so sad that i can't find a single person within a reasonable distance that can manage this task.

she insisted she was not incompetent, and that any professional would agree. i took him home, called our old groomer an hour away, and luckily, they had an opening today. i just picked him up, and he looks amazing! aside from the "love mats" behind his ears, absolutely *nothing* had to be cut out.

when we arrived, she basically took one look at him and declared he was "far too matted," and his whole coat would need to be shaved off. i basically laughed in her face and said "thanks, but no thanks." she insisted on showing me what she was talking about. her "proof" was some normal tufting.

...for the first time, to give someone else a try. she had *insisted* she's quite familiar with collies, and was eager to accept him in. he's currently dropping his coat, so he looks a little rough - but nothing out of the norm from the 6 years i've had him.

as some of you may know, i've struggled to find a competent groomer in our new town that can properly groom a collie. i've already had to make the hour-plus drive more than once since we've moved, back to our old town, to get him a proper grooming. yesterday, i took him to a new local groomer...

okay, well, this made me cry. my 58 year old co-worker overheard me telling someone else yesterday about graduating. she never went to college herself. after hearing that i did it with two kids (she has none), she's feeling inspired. she's applying for the business management program this weekend.

❤️ it feels small to me, especially as i near mid-40 - it seems just about everyone has one these days, and every job advancement needs a bachelor's or higher. that's in my plan, but it still feels forever away.
