(1/4) So Roisin, you wanna talk about reading let’s talk about reading. What is wrong with you Roisin? Are you going through it? Are you going through some kind of psychological change in your life? There was a time I would be surprised that you stood in Westminster Palace — a literal seat of power, with a literal microphone, being literally platformed — and framed yourself as someone being silenced by a conspiracy of the T in LGBT. That time has passed. You speak of a boycott as though the people that you call a cult, the people you say don’t exist, the parents of children who face being separated from them, the generation growing up knowing that gender is complex and demanding medical care that affirms that reality are somehow obliged to support you and not criticise you publicly. You describe their voiced displeasure as if it were persecution. A boycott is not simply people who decline to purchase your album and express their rejection of you in your Instagram comments. What you are experiencing is considerably simpler: consequences.Perhaps the House of Lords wishes to hear your voice. I don’t. So I’m going to silence you while we talk about realness.I’m going to replace the audio of your voice with Laverne Cox encouraging any trans people who need to and can, to go “stealth” — so that they can stay alive. You said once in an interview that anytime you want to feel famous you just go to a gay club. This in and of itself should have been a warning flare that your relationship with the queer community was less like an icon and more like a mosquito. Have you spent enough time in gay clubs, feeling famous, to understand what going stealth means? It means performing gender norms so completely, so flawlessly, that you become undetectable in everyday society. “Real” enough to evade detection. Real enough to be less likely to be killed. You have said in interviews that the film, Paris Is Burning was deeply formative for you. You are not alone in that respect. An influence. An entrancement. You have spoken at length about how you relate to the concept of realness. I want to stop there.
